Great Late Night Burrito

by layalisss at Citysearch

I noticed that fast food options are slim after the clubs get out but as far as late night eats go, this is among the best. I guess having a few drinks in me might also make me a little biased! Being from Arizona it is hard to find good mexican fast food anywhere but in the Southwest, and this is by no means comparable, but it holds its own in Chicago. The burritos are tasty, the salsa is spicy, and the guys who work there are the nicest in the city. I really like the Horchata there too, it's all I ever drink! When my options include things like gyros and pizza, this place always wins.

  • Pros: Cheap eats, fast service, good food
  • Cons: No parking, not enough seating during peak hours

Not Bad For A Chain

by olstile at Citysearch

The food is not great but it really isn't bad for a chain. Burritos are stuffed and salsa has a little kick to it. The volume of the thing satisfies the late night drunks. Food is good, service is nice, place is clean. But I wouldn't rate this is a top flight burrito place.

  • Pros: Clean, Lots of Food for $, Friendly Service
  • Cons: Lights Blind Drunks, Very Spartan Decor
5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

DELICIOUS & WONDERFUL

by molsen21 at Citysearch

Luxurious and robust, this delightful burrito will create a delicious explosion in your mouth. I would request a burrito from labambas for my last meal if i were being executed. The burrito gentlemen all have nice haunches too. enjoy!

Giant burritos attract a post-bar, pre-hangover crowd to this come-as-you-are Mexican joint.

In Short
Walking into its bright, spacious interior, it's hard to tell that this taqueria is part of a national chain; customers are made to feel like regulars. Although La Bamba serves the standard range of Mexican fast food--tortas, tacos, quesadillas--the signature item is the burrito, which comes in three sizes (miniature, regular and super) and is stuffed with steak, pork, chicken or chorizo plus beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cheese.

Not like the 90s U of I days.

by ppiszek at Citysearch

(Add 2 pts. to this review if you live in the Champaign/Urbana or De Kalb locations)

The Lincoln Park location of La Bamba is disappointing. 10 years ago La Bamba had THE standout burriots and tortas at the U of I Champaign. Perhaps its Lincoln Park clientele, by nature neurotically health conscious and trendy, fear the amount of calories that would be in a burrito if it was acutally "as big as your head". 10 yrs. ago, this size claim was true. Worse, the ingredients seem to be blander these days. Granted, my cravings for La Bamba were often strongest when leaving a bar inebriated. However, even in a sober state, La Bamba used to be 1 of my 4 food groups when I was in college. I almost feel traitorous writing this review. Sorry, but Chicago location doesn't quite taste the same.

  • Pros: outsd. chgo. excell., burritos & tortas, As big as your head
  • Cons: Lin. Pk. not so good, smaller, $8+ for burrito drink

Totally Bombed

by Michellin6 at Citysearch

If I could give this place a neg. rating it would deserve it. The people were nice, don't get me wrong, but anyone who gave this place a 10 must have been mad that they wasted their money and didn't want to be the only loser!! After we could not enter the parking lot at Taco Burrito Palace we tried La Bamba b/c it had parking. This place bit the big one, The food had ZERO flavor and the person who said this is for anyone who doesn't know Mex. food is right. As for the person who says it is great at 1:30am they must have been so drunk their tastebuds were out of order.

  • Pros: clean, inexpensive, parking
  • Cons: tasteless food, Tasteless food, tasteless food
