Special Place for Special People - Is Right!

by nycgirl09

If the language could be stronger on this site, trust me - I would definitely be using it. If the rating could be no stars, trust me - it would be.

Don't waste your time going to this place. A friend of mine had an unfortunate incident and lost consciousness while we were leaving the bar. Since he hadn't even finished 1 beer at the place (and we had already decided to leave) it was in no way alcohol induced. The bouncer and bar tender kept insisting that he leave (which would include walking down a steep and uneven flight of stairs) despite a doctor's orders to have my friend stay put until he could stand. It was obviously a very serious situation and he was quite shaken.

They finally backed off only to make fun of my friend and the situation over a loudspeaker system to the ENTIRE bar. Not really a situation to make light of. AND certainly not the reaction an establishment should have if a customer falls ill while visiting. It's not okay and I feel everyone considering this bar should know what type of people you'll encounter at Delilah's.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Rude, Inconsiderate Employees

Great place for the beer aficionado

by GatorMing

Or aspiring beer aficionado. We were there for a "beer fest" which was not as organized as it could be. But the selection was very good.

This bar is not listed as a Belgian bar anywhere, but it's pretty close to bar's in other parts of the country that claim to be a Belgian bar. There was a downstairs and upstairs bar. They had Delirium Tremens on tap, and Rocheforte no 10 upstairs (rare find in any bar).

It's sort of a mix of dive bar and a world of beer bar. Definitely worth checking out.

  • Pros: Beer selection
  • Cons: Rickity staircase

Cool bar

by mandioca

This is a fun place. They always have a drink on special for $2, and very often it includes import beers or Jack Daniels. The jukebox is without a doubt the best! They also have an old arcade game machine next to the stairs. The people are nice and friendly, but very often the place gets packed with a very young crowd. If you are looking to meet people 25+, this Delilah's would not be it.

  • Pros: Music, Drink specials, Athmosphere
  • Cons: Gets overly crowded, People are too young

This dark lounge has evolved into one of Lincoln Park's better places to knock back a shot to good music.

The Scene
The clientele has softened since Delilah's was Crash Palace, but it remains fueled by owner Mike Miller's passion for whiskey and rock and roll. Besides having one of the city's best jukeboxes (Hank Williams, Sex Pistols, James Brown and local indie rock), Delilah's features DJs from Chicago's music subcultures spinning selections from their personal collections five days a week. Local musicians spin on a semi-regular basis. Employees of record labels like Estrus Records (garage rock) and Bloodshot Records (insurgent country) have also made appearances. Count on hearing punk rock, country, metal and Brit pop on various nights.

The Draw
If you like whiskey, there are 150 different reasons to set up camp at the bar. Delilah's frequently updates the list of Kentucky bourbons, Tennessee and Irish whiskeys, and scotch as well as the extensive collection of other liquor and 150 beers.

Best bar in the city, IMHO.

by lurchl

This place rules. One of the best jukeboxes you'll find (and good entertaining DJs), unpretentious patrons, cool vibe, friendly bartenders and doorpeople, horrific B-movies on the monitor, and top-notch selection of suds and whiskeys. An anomaly in Lincoln Park and well worth the trip.

Special Place Special People

by mrkevin

Delilah's is a one-of-a-kind Chicago bar. It features an amazing selection of liquors, beers (including lambics and imports), fun music and a very friendly clientele. This really is not a see and be seen bar. It is a bar for the low key alternative cool people who aren't into what you're wearing or how well you know somebody who knows somebody who shampooed Paris Hilton. There are a fair amount of tattoos and piercings, but plenty of others who fit right in with the mix. My favorite bar in the city. And drink prices are very low!

  • Pros: people, bartenders, atmosphere
  • Cons: can be crowded

Buffalo,NY In Chicago

by flynnbm

Mike Miller{owner of Delilahs) and I have been beer lovers before Jimmy Carter's edict, and the wave of micro beer in the states(Premier Liquor in Tonawanda Saved Us). This dude will WOW you frequently, tickle you always, and direct you into the cool. Miller knows R&R and Sweet hop beverages better than your pretentious uncle or your "businessman cousin". Punk Rock and Quality do go hand in hand, liquor and guitar wise. keep on keepin on. B Flynn (Lake Placid N.Y.
