I lost a family diamond and thank God it was insured. (tho I'd rather have my grandmother's stone). When I got the insurance check, my mother gave me a diamond ring made out of my maternal grandmother's wedding ring. We always hated the ring that was made from the diamonds, and I brought the ring to Steve Quick. Patti was so helpful and has such good taste, we made a necklace and earrings from the diamonds in the ugly ring. I have fabulous diamond hoops that were custom made. Patti also found an adorable setting for diamond stud earrings I had and she also made some other items for me from some of my stones. And, I saved money because I got credit for the gold of the "old" jewelry. Work is beautifully executed and completed in a timely manner. And it is such a lovely shop with refreshments, Altoids and friendly helpful service by all in the shop. Thank you Steve Quick Jewelers and, Patti.

Worst craftsmanship possible! I took my engagement ring to be sized down and the craftsmanship was awful: they sized the ring perfectly, but did not use the proper heat or technique to solder the ring back together and the band split a few weeks later. I went back to have it fixed, which they did for free (the customer service is great), but my ring split AGAIN within a week after the 2nd round of repairs. I ended up having to ship the ring to the west coast jeweler who originally made my ring to have it repaired by someone who knows what they are doing. But now because the band had to be repaired so many times as a result of the poor crafstmanship at Steve Quick the band is thin and weak. Eventually my engagement ring will need to be completely re-cast.. Extremely dissappointing.

I live in New York and my girlfriend lives in Chicago. When we first talked about getting engaged, I had planned on looking for rings in NYC. My girlfriend lives in Lincoln Park and said that she had found this great jewelry boutique where she liked the jewelry and the people... So the next time I was in town, she took me to Steve Quick and showed me the styles she liked. They were so helpful, they made a "wishlist" of the rings, her finger size and the shape of diamond she loved - a radiant. What could be easier? The only thing I was worried about was that Steve Quick Jeweler would not be price competitive with what I could get on 47th St. I did some homework in New York - priced out diamonds, decided on my 4 "C's", my budget and then gave SQJ a few days notice that I would be in town. It turns out that they had the patented Radiant Cut diamonds as well as non-patented and their prices were competitive! Not to mention they were a lot less shady than the people I had met on 47th St. The day I came into the store, I was shown 4 stones that were all beautiful and was able to pick one that I thought would be right for my girl. I picked from one of the rings she liked, placed the order and about a month later, as promised, the ring was shipped to my apt in New York and perfect for my NYC carriage ride propsal. I can't thank SQJ enough for making this whole process so easy. But I must appoligize, my fiance must drive them crazy, I think she stops by almost every day to have them steam clean the ring. Maybe soon she will finish her MBA and be able to come to NYC with me.

Pros: Friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Makes jewelry buying easy.

I bought the most beautiful ring at Steve Quick jewelers a couple of months ago from Melissa and I just love it. I recieved exactly what I had asked for and more. Melissa really listened to what I wanted. She found the stone I was looking for in a timely manner also helping me with the cut and clarity. She seemed to know exactly what I was thinking with regards to this piece of jewlery. I will continue to use Steve Quick jewelers again and again.

When my grandmother died I inherited her wedding set—2 eternity bands set in platinum and a center ring with diamonds and emeralds. For the last 3 years every time I look down at my hand I think I should be holding a gin and tonic (twist of lemon, no lime), smoking a cigarette and marrying fabulously rich men. Unfortunately (or fortunately in some regards) that is not my life and when it comes to my jewelry I am a B-E-A-S-T. After getting 5 referrals I walked into Steve Quick with rings that were rectangles rather than circles and missing 3 emeralds with 5 others chipped. I was met with unbelievable attention and they devised an innovative solution to the disaster I caused. They reinforced each ring in a band of white gold (much more durable than platinum), scored the edges to carry through the line of the diamonds and secured new emeralds. I trusted them with the memory of my grandmother and am tremendously grateful for their care, consideration and beautiful craftsmanship.

Although I frequently use online reviews, I’ve never been motivated to write one until today. When I read some of the reviews below I couldn’t help but share my opinion. My fiancé and I first came into SQ to look at engagement rings. We had been to several jewelry stores in Chicago, NYC and Philadelphia. We initially had no intention of buying a ring from a local jeweler, instead planning to browse in person and buy online to get the most diamond for our money. No jewelry store we went to inspired us to do otherwise. From the moment we walked into SQ, we were greeted warmly and attended to quickly. There was none of the pretention often associated with jewelry stores. Nicholas showed us diamonds in a variety of styles and price ranges, allowing us to compare differences in clarity, color, etc. Everything was spread out onto the counter so that I could try on whatever I pleased. Nicholas, and the rest of the staff, could not have been more friendly and helpful. Despite the attentiveness, we never felt pressured to buy and were allowed to act at our own pace. Needless to say, we were so pleased by the alacrity of the staff and quality of the jewelry at SQ that my engagement ring was eventually purchased there. I have now taken my ring in for service three times. Each time adjustments have been made promptly and exceptionally well. I have yet to be charged for any of these adjustments. When it came time to look at wedding rings, of course we returned to SQ. The selection more than adequate and their willingness to custom order helped us both find the perfect bands. As for the price, we found it to be very competitive with other quality, jewelry stores. Any time we have expressed budget concerns, Nicholas has always provided us with alternatives to lower the price while still retaining the quality of item we desire. I have never found him, or any of the other staff members at SQ, to be anything but accommodating and kind. I always look forward to stopping by.

This place is outstanding. They are helpful, friendly and honest. Everytime I am in there they treat me like family. Anytime someone I know is in the market for jewelry I suggest Steve Quick Jeweler. They have not let me down, nor anyone that I have sent in. It's beautiful work done in a timely fashion. I've gotten everything from my engagement ring to earrings to cuff links there and everytime they have gone above and beyond what I have seen anywhere else! This place is the best!!!

O.K. They are the only chicago jewler who carries the branded radiant diamonds. I wanted a branded radiant & set out to check this place out. They were more than gracious in that they ordered in a dozen diamonds for me to see..no pressure. After several visits I settled on a diamond I loved. I found the price fair for the market for branded radiants. My diamond was set in a custom setting and they were more than cool w/getting me my completed custom ring asap as my timeline was very short (1 month start to finish). After taking delivery of the ring, we required it to be re-sized as my wife seems to be shrinking...but they resized the ring no-charge & in a timely fashion (2 days). This is a place for custom higher-end goods, thus the location. Expect to pay for the quality. If you just want jewelry repair you CAN find cheaper places. Overall not cheap, but quality that lets you relax knowing your money was well spent and that you received a good value.

I am very disappointed with the service that I received at Steve Quick Jewelers. I brought my heirloom engagement ring in for a size increase and have had to return it 3 times for obvious defects in the repair. It feels terrible to have them treat my new ring with disprespect. They have acted rudely during my several visits, belittling my ring because I am not a high stakes customer. The repair was overpriced ($50 instead of the standard $15). It has been 1 month since I initially brought in the ring and they have not yet completed the basic repair to my satisfaction. I cannot voice my complaint loud enough. Do not go to Steve Quick Jewelers!
