The Scene
Befitting Old Town's neighborhood charm, Heartworks conveys nostalgia for the days of tin toys and kitschy ware. This little shop attracts those looking for cutesy scraps of old-time memorabilia.

The Goods
Much of the merchandise is perfect as stocking stuffers or modest dinner-host gifts. In the front, a wooden cabinet is filled with classics toys like Slinky, Mr. Potato Head, Play-Doh and Tinkertoy construction sets. Paper goods include stationery, gift wrap and invitations. A colorful selection of un-Hallmark-like greeting cards includes makers like Great Arrow, known for its hand-silkscreened cards, and Mik Wright, specializing in photograph cards. The perpetual collection of Hello Kitty paraphernalia extends to rhinestone jewelry featuring the adorable cat--meant for little girls, loved equally by grown women. Prices run from around $1 for a trinket to about $80 for a Nick and Nora's sleepwear set, made famous on "Ally McBeal."
