The drinks are good, but the food and service is bad. The place is small and cramped. Plus the price is fairly high for chinatown. Conclusion: Pretty much any of the places nearby will have better food than this place, but the drinks first rate.

  • Pros: Drinks
  • Cons: Price, Food, Space

Even the fanciest restaurants in town just can’t beat the presentation, taste and appeal of the food at Joy Yee’s Noodles. Everything looked so good, I've seen folks take pictures before they devour the tasty meal! For Appetizers, try their Crab Rangoon, Shrimp in a Blanket, or their Lemon Grass Chicken Wings. For the Entree, I love their Fried Red Snapper in Tamarind Sauce, Korean BBQ Ribs, Chicken Shrimp Rice in a Pineapple Boat, or their Soft shell crab over rice in a Korean stone bowl. And while you are there, try their amazing selection of fresh fruit drinks. Their food is a visual and gastronomic delight - take your camera along!

  • Pros: Best asian food hands down, appeal, unbeatable price!
  • Cons: none

We are regular customer of Yoy Yee's Chinatown Square restaurant. Today I went there again with my daughter to order some carryout drinks at around 3:30 pm but unfortunately we left without buying anything. It was because the woman in charge of ordering yelled at my daughter for ordering too slow. The woman’s English was really Chinglish and it took a while for my daughter to understand that she said there was no more mango. Yoy Yee's food is very good and price is reasonably but good service is also important. I do not whether I will go back again.

  • Pros: Food is good
  • Cons: Service is terrible

I've gone to this place once and I'd go back to try it again. I really like how they have such a wide selection with the menu of stuff to chose from, though, me being as indescive as I am, I had a hard time choosing what I wanted to eat. I got the Teriyaki Steak, which surprised me when it came out because it wasn't a Teriyaki sauce with it, but rather the flavor was steamed into the meat. Also, it came baked in a cute little wooden box with the meat, vegetables, and steamed rice inside. The steak did have some fat on it which was kind of hard to cut through with the fork, but besides that was good. I liked sampling other people's food and the fried rice with chicken was really good to sample, with big chicken in it. It was a bit cramped inside, but luckily it wasn't too crowded because it was close to being closed. The portions were also big, so, overall I'd go back to it.

  • Pros: Good food, pretty good prices, big portions
  • Cons: Small, cramped space

It's certainly a pleasant place to eat: the wait and bus staff are prompt and efficient; the lengthy menu allows you to satisfy an array of appetites, the well-lit interior and white colors give the eatery a sense of space and roominess. The presentation of the dishes is also usually quite nice. But I found the food to be alright, and would describe the dishes as based on southeast asian recipes and moderated according to local (Chicago/American) palates and ingredients. In so saying that the food was "alright," I do not mean that I expect the sorts of dishes that I grew up eating or return to enjoy when I am in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, or Hong Kong. But I felt like they could have been more careful with the spices, that the cooking style was a bit heavy-handed (sort of like a cafeteria style eatery), that they skimped on many ingredients in favor of cheaper ingredients, that the meats in the bun are fatty, that the seafood in the noodle soups and curries were not fresh, and that they did not have the sort of range of spiciness that I hoped for in a place that bills itself as inspired by southeast Asian cuisine. Having said all that, I applaud the place for showing off the diversity of the southeast and east Asian kitchen. It would be awfully nice, though, if they did so with more care in selecting the types, quantities, and combinations of ingredients.

  • Pros: Quick service, introduction to diversity of Asian menu
  • Cons: mid to low quality ingredients, narrow range of flavors and spice combinations

I'm pretty sure most Chicagoans agree that this restaurant is fantastic! They have so many options here and reasonable prices. They also make great bubble tea drinks...the almond milk tea is my favorite. I'm not crazy about how they decorated this location, and prefer the coziness of the Evanston location.

been going here for years and yes the lines are long if you go at peak times--so Don't go at peak times unless you are willing to wait a long time. Best fruit blends with tapioca ANYWHERE in Chicago. The dishes are large and two dishes often will easily serve 4 people. The varied menu is exception--there are dozens of dishes. The waitstaff are alot of young fellas who think they are in a Johnnie To movie or Miyake movie, I swear. The food is very "Hong Kong" and some Vietnamese dishes too. Never had a bad meal here. I love going here on Chinese New Year right before the parade when it's chill time.

  • Pros: portions generous & fruit blends are amazing
  • Cons: long wait times at peak hours

The food is mediocre, not bad nor that good either. The fruit drinks however were fresh and are very good. The place is small and cramped. They need a bigger place. The service could be better too. We were never checked on after the food was delivered. Overall, it would have been a satisfactory experience if the place weren't so crowded.

PROS: Fruit drinks

CONS: Cramped, so-so food & service

Over my five day trip to Chicago I went to Joy Yees a total of THREE times. Thats right, three days out of five, I went to Joy Yees thats how good it is. Also, I hail from the Bay Area, home of bubble tea galore, but we dont have anything like this back home. The drinks are much larger that standard and the flavors and variety of drinks is awesome. They also serve up some good food for affordable prices only sticking point is that the service is only so-so.

I cant say enough good things about Joy Yees Noodles in Chinatown. This place has the best mango bubble tea!!!! Some friends and I decided to try the Taste of Chicago food festival, but we ended up coming here three times. Our rice dishes were savory, though we kept eyeing the soup noodles at the table next to us. The prices are affordable and the portions large. Plus, the menu comes with pictures so you know what to look forward to.
