Giant photographs in this comfortable Calumet Heights restaurant depict owner Helen Maybell Anglin with luminaries like Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali. The soulful smorgasbord is a testament to stewing and smothering, with short ribs, ham, pork chops, turkey and chicken prepared in juices and sauces, and fish expertly fried. Vegetables include green beans with bacon and potatoes, collard greens and candied yams. Sweet potato pie, peach cobbler and banana pudding are worth saving room for. The dining room's decor is homey and welcoming, though not fancy.
