South Side institution serves up soul food with a nod to Cajun country.
by Contributor
In Short
Decked out with hanging plants, a long bank of booths, and photos of local African-American politicians, actors and newscasters, this spot dishes out a full slate of spicy soul food dishes. Entrees include gumbo, fried chicken wings, and fried catfish with vinegary greens, homemade dressing and candied sweet potatoes. Beef short ribs and oxtail are also available; peach cobbler is a homemade dessert option.
- Pros: homey servicebig portions
- Cons: bland food
Good Place to Eat
by WilhelmGGW
I could call this place *very good* if it weren't for the the service. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not. We've pretty much stopped going here because there are other places around with similar food and ambience, and much more reliably good service.
- Pros: good food, nice ambience
- Cons: unreliable service
