In late 2006, I dropped by the gym to see the facility and get information on membership. One of their salespeople went through an interview with me to see what I was interested in, and I described that I was only really interested in the swimming pool. Nevertheless, she insisted on showing me all the other equipment. I followed along because I was sure that was what she was trained to do as part of the sales pitch. The equipment seemed a bit more geared toward those who aren't real serious about bulking up. Most of the room is taken up by aerobic equipment and some resistance machines lined the wall. Big lack of free weights and benches. The pool was okay but no better than the indoor pools that the Chicago Park Distract offers free to any resident. Well I was going to be out of town for most of the next couple months for work and holidays (something I informed the salesperson of) so I took the sales materials and the 7 (?) day guest pass they included. I was a little put off why they gave me a short guest pass when I know my friend (who told me of the place) was given a 30-day pass just days before. When I returned after my travels, my friend had a 21-day guest pass to offer so I decided I'd give the gym a try. I went for a swim for about 45 minutes and when I was leaving I asked for my ID and guest pass back. They wouldn't give me my guest pass back. I talked to 3 different people, explaining it was the first time I'd ever used a guest pass. They, including one manager, said it was for "first use only." I explained over and over that it WAS my first time using a pass. After clarifying my point several times, they still wouldn't let me use the guest pass. If that's how they treat someone who is considering giving them a couple grand, I wasn't eager to see how they treated someone when they already had my money.

Pros: parking if you're a member

Cons: Insincere staff, WAY overpriced, mediocre pool, lack of free weights

Just joined this club as a multi-branch member. Very dissatisfied. It's an okay "do-it-yourself" gym, but for the price I'd investigate other options first. Staff haven't a clue re customer service--surly, gossipy, "trainers" point to an instruction manual re use of machines, lack of available staff, knowledge deficits re exercise basics. Add to it unclean lockers, dirty towels UNDER THE COMPUTERS, wet/dirty towels in the showers at most of the clubs I've been to and you get the picture. Has made for a less-than-motivating experience for this newcomer. Also, don't be fooled by the "open 24 hrs". If you read the fine print, you'll find that they're only open M-TH for 24 hrs, something they didn't state prior to membership. Cost me $11 for 15 mins in unreimbursed parking to find out. Rrrgggh, these folks don't have a clue. Go elsewhere for your money.
