they are CROOKS!

by radchad at Citysearch

by far the worst sports bar in chicago!!! it's way to big to be fun! and worst of all - they rob you!?!? and by that i don't mean high drink prices they actually STEAL from you!! i had my jacket and a bag hanging from my chair. after our game they saved the jacket in their office but stole my bag!! are you effing kidding me!?!? one of their bus boys, "i never seen your bag." i go to the management and they DIDN'T even ask the staff?!? what kind of service is that?!? after this i'll be lobbying for my school to never watch games there again. which will cost joe's thousands of dollars! if you're reading this posting be warned - this is an AWFUL bar!

  • Pros: the food is not poisonous
  • Cons: they steal from you

A Great Hang Out

by stelstarz at Citysearch

Joe's is the best Hang Out in the Chicago land area. First of all, you can see just about any sporting event on one of the many, many TV's. And if you're into bands... Joe's books only the most popular talent. They book all kinds of music, and with Country Music being really "in" right now, Joe's booked some of hottest names out there. Be sure to get there early to avoid any lines, and give yourself enough time to have a great meal before the band starts.

  • Pros: Great Entertainment, Ton's of TV's, Fun

This Clybourn Corridor warehouse-turned-sports bar is also a good place to hear live music or meet friends.

The Scene
Action-thirsty crowds throw back ice-cold beer and munch on typical bar food. Pine booths and tall wood tables are filled with young, enthusiastic college alums throughout three rooms of big bar space. There's an outdoor beer garden that seats 200 and a VIP section upstairs in the back room. Almost every major university is represented with flags and banners, and fraternity paddles hanging behind the bar (don't worry--there's no hazing). Some 80 smaller monitors allow visitors to watch whatever they want; mini-TVs adorn booths.

The Draw
On weekend nights, the giant TV screens in the back room are replaced with a performance stage, where local bands like Hair Banger's Ball and former big-namers like Rick Springfield play to crowds of as many as 1,200. The tables are cleared out, leaving plenty of space for dancing.

interesting sports bar

by drnnph at Citysearch

Joe's is not very typical of a sports bar. When I went last Saturday, a rap band "17th floor" was performing. The rappers were really good (by far one of the best rap performances I've seen - energetic, well coordinated and great voices), but it was still a little odd in a sports bar. Joe's had a 2 hour free drink special with a company but the drinks were nasty. We waited for over 20 minutes to get in and the bar wasn't even that crowded. Overall, Joe's has a nice setting: you can sit inside or outside and everyone is pretty laid back.

  • Pros: nice setting, laid back, good music performers
  • Cons: long wait at the door, bad 'free"drinks

sports bar?

by dskez at Citysearch

yes this place has many TVs and shows the game du jour... but the mark of a REAL sports bar is to have the game on EVERY night... and to um know what the game is....

I've often come here to watch 'not so trendy' sporting events, the NBA and NFL drafts, a Yankees/Red Sox game or even a NCAA basketball 1 vs 2 game and most of those times the bartendars had to have their arm twisted to get the game (not to mention the sound) on a game in a corner....

Any bar in town can have the Cubs, Bulls or Notre Dame on, but when a pitching duel on the last week of September on tuesday is going, on this place is just another warehouse, waiting for the masses to dringk their Bud-light....

Great Sports Bar

by kodiak78 at Citysearch

This place is the best for college football games. You can't go anywhere else in the city and see this many games and this many different fans drinking, cheering and having a good time. I had some friends in from out of town and they were in awe! This isn't a bar meant for bands...this is a sports bar...and thats enough.

Especially after last years run of IU to the College tournament championship game and much before that, Joe's on Weed has been known as the best bar in Chicago for watching sports events and they can handle a lot of fans. Last year the bar was crazy with IU and Illinois making a run and with this bar known for IU and Illinois alumni it has become a favorite of Chicago.

  • Pros: Large Building, Lots of waitresses, Chicago Favorite
  • Cons: Crowded in the back, People get too drunk

Mega Sports Bar

by nathanstull_citysearch at Citysearch

I went here to watch the Texas OU game and I had a good time, despite all the Sooners fans. hehe The service was a little slow, but that poor waitress was slammed. Once it started slowing down, she really put an effort in to make sure we were OK. It was not unnoticed. The food was regular pub grub. I like the outdoor patio that is covered and heated in the winter time too. Oh, and the large TVs inside draw the crowd.

  • Pros: large space, large TVs
  • Cons: if packed, slow serve

IU alums paradise

by chadtimothy23 at Citysearch

Great atmosphere, huge area, plenty of bigscreens, and beer. Not to mention around NCAA time it is IU city. A little piece of Bloomington in Chi-town. Make sure, don't forget, it's on WEED street.

Last year I started going to watch the Bears at Joe's and had a blast. The only bad part was getting ready for the playoff games and it was so crowded we couldn't even get a seat! All the fair-weather fans! But the service is great and the atmosphere...great for yelling! : )

  • Pros: inexpensive, fun, big screens
  • Cons: have to come early, seating, ?
