Great for Brunch!
by briannalynn
This place is wonderful for Brunch! They have amazing stuff on their menu! And they come in cute little old books. The staff is always really nice too! And whenever I go on a sunday, there is never a wait! Amazing!
- Pros: great tasty food
- Cons: slower service

This place has great food, priced reasonably well, but they need to focus on improving the overall service and cleanliness.
BYOB done right.

Just dined there last night. Met the owner, "front of the house-turned-back of the house-turned-owner" kinda guy... The food is amazing, honestly...Simple but flavorful, everthing fits...start with the summer salad...the secret is fresh fruit tossed with warm roasted red peppers and crumbled goat cheese...next choose from the specials listed on the blackboard hanging from the back wall...always to include at least one meat , one pasta and one fish dish...I had pork stuff pablano peppers...amazing little heat to it even...my date had the chicken...grilled smoky flavor with roasted red peppers...we both cleaned our plate...Even more amazing is the price...generous, way too generous portions...you kinda feel guilty...$13 entrees that are on par with any three or four star places I have worked for for...speaking of service...bare bones...nothing flashy, nothing pretentious, just quick and efficient, lots of personality though...you just might see your server later that night at the Empty Bottle next door to the restaurant..and now for the kicker...BYOB... forget the wine? Just go next door to the Empty Bottle and pick up a bottle, a glass of wine, or a few beers...not sure of their selection though...So Check it out...
- Pros: BYOB, Street Parking, Quick service
The food does not make up for bad service and an nasty upkeeping

I visited Bite this sunday after a friend and I were looking for somewhere new to go that also served meat and vegetarian dishes since i'm a vegetarian. My first impression from outside the windows was that it was a very artsy kind of place. After entering I really wanted to leave. The seats had food on it that we had to wipe off ourselves, the floor looked as if it hadn't been swept in weeks and the visible kitchen had paint peeling and hanging off the back doors. Despite these things my friend and I decided to stay and at least try it because she had read two goods reviews about the food on the internet. After the waitress took our order from two tables over without moving from her seat we shortly recieved our food. I must admit the food was quite tasty. We had quesidillas appetizers and two entrees which were seasoned well and filling. As we were eating we also noticed dust hanging from the vents ceilings and cashiers counter. It woudn't have been that bad but they were large dustballs in some spots and could be seen as they blew in the air from the air conditioner. Our waitress picked up our dirty placed and dropped a knife which she left on the floor and never came back to pick-up. I spilled some water and she handed me the rag left the table and broght us the bill. After I filled out the credit card slip she thanked us from the other table were she was sitting with other diners and told us to come again. I WILL GO NOT BE GOING THER AGAIN!
- Pros: Preety good food, seasoned well.
- Cons: Horrible decor and worst sevice I have ever had.
THEY?LL TAKE MORE THAN A BITE...
by dballen2
I had brunch at Bite this past Sunday. I paid for the meal with my Check Card. The meal cost around $50 for four of us. When I checked my account the next day, there were 3 charges on my account pending for $50. I called Bite and was told that the credit card machine was old and this happens A LOT. (So why don't they fix their machine?) They must have run my card three times. Because I used my Check card, immediately $150 odd dollars was debited from my account. I asked them to remedy the situation. They said that it was now in my bank's hands. the Bank said that Bite could fax them a document requesting that the authorizations be dropped or I could just wait 5-7 days for them to be dropped and the $ credited to my account. I asked Bite to do this. They told me that they are such a small business that they don't have a fax machine. I said I'd be happy to pick up the letter and fax it to my bank. The employee said that she would talk to the owner when he comes in next (but he is hardly EVER there) and see what he says and have him call me. That never happened. My bank said that the charges should eventually drop, but in the meantime, I could be subject to overdraft fees that I will have to dispute after the charges are dropped. This is SUCH a pain that Bite seems to know is happening OFTEN with their clients. If you can't fix it STOP TAKING DEBIT CARDS!
EXCELLENT FOOD!

I've been here several times over the past few years, with the girls or with the beau, always excellent. The chefs specials keep things new and exciting. I've never had a bad entree here. Prices are great. BYOB is the best. Bathroom could be in a better spot than through the kitchen, but hey, it's worth it!
- Pros: Inexpensive menu, great selection that changes often. BYOB.
- Cons: Bathroom is through kitchen, place needs interior updating, no waiting area except for smokey bar next door. Dangerous hallway between restaurant & bar.
The best Eggs Benedict in the city!
by kitkat76
Bite Cafe has fulfilled two of my three requirements for a good place to eat, great food at a reasonable cost. Although, their unique menu can more than compensate for lack of service, I have found that service in general is key. The service staff is friendly at best, but a bit too laxed for my taste. The last few times I was there, it seemed everyone who arrived after me ordered first. A bit discouraging given I enjoy tipping (very well). On the late night weekend hours, things get pretty packed and they tend to cram you in the bench seating that does not allow you to breath let alone eat. Overall, the food and dessert menu is out of this world delicious. Bite Cafe has the best Eggs Benedict in the city with the perfect and/or unique buttery flavor in their hollandaise sauce, it is beyond perfection!
- Pros: Great Food, Cheap Eats
- Cons: Laxed Service Staff, Loud
great

Laid-back Ukie Village cafe with a menu as eclectic as its hipster clientele.

The Scene
On a dingy stretch of Western Avenue next to Empty Bottle, Bite Cafe is surprisingly charming and cozy. Exposed brick walls are decorated with art; the hipster youth who hang here look like they may have painted it. The small room buzzes with a friendly, bohemian vibe.
The Food
Disguised as an elementary school workbook, the menu offers a trendy meta-diner experience: burgers and onion rings, but also satay and falafel; spaghetti and orange cream soda, but also Lebanese salad and cold spicy noodles. Nightly dinner specials highlight fresh fish, such as a sauteed tilapia with brown butter caper sauce. Weekend brunch presents welcome twists on breakfast favorites, from omelets overflowing spicy sausage and provolone to French toast stuffed with creamy mascarpone and drizzled with sweet-tart orange cranberry syrup.
