I have been going to Fat Jonnies for about 8 years now, and its the best no doubt , the place doesnt look like a place you'd wanna eat at but its the best and worth it , im lucky and get to usually eat there twice a week . I reccomend it Very Much !!! if you eat anywhere in Chicago , Drive over to Fat Jonnies you'll be tellin people about it for years to come , and ask jonny (the fat ol man with the white beard) if he was really the first guy to ever sell super dogs( what they call chilli cheese dogs) , from super dogs to the mother in laws ( tamali and chilli in a cup) to all his funny names for his stuff go Go GO GO GO GO !!!!!!
- Pros: Best Hot dogs on Earth , Good Pop , Awesome Service
- Cons: Bad neighborhood , umm , bad neighborhood

Ive grown up on Fat Johnnies since the mid 70's and even though moved away from the area (Arlington Hts) still go there specifically for their dogs...

Serving cheap dogs and Polish sausages from a shack on Western Avenue since the '70s.
by Peter Behle at Citysearch
In Short
This dilapidated shack on busy Western Avenue has been serving up hot dogs, sausage and tamales for more than 30 years. Place your order through the window, then eat in the car or at one of several picnic tables set up in the summer. Hot dogs are steamed and topped with mustard, neon-green relish, chopped onions, cucumber and tomato. Those with a bigger appetite might go for a double dog (two wieners, one bun) or a fat one (a larger dog).
- Pros: Good, cheap dogs
- Cons: No place to sit in the winterSketchy neighborhood
Worth the Trip!!

I've been going to this place for as long as it's been open and Hands Down;No Question; the BEST DOGS YOU WILL EVER HAVE ---PERIOD. Going to 73rd and Western is worth the trip from PLAINFIELD!! Just go there when it's still light outside.
- Pros: Hot Dogs, Chili Dogs, Polish Sausage
- Cons: Bad Neighborhood
Better than all of 'em

This has to be the best hot dog in the city of Chicago and surrounding areas located in a trailor on South Western Avenue. There is always a line waiting to get one of his dogs. David Berg kosher red hots on a delicious poppy seed bun always fresh and served with cucumbers instead of pickles (this is the best part). No french fries, but assorted chips, i.e. Jays, etc. grape juice and drinks and a lot to offer on the menu. The double dog is to die for and I love the tamale sundae.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly, The best
- Cons: Parking, No inside seating
