Good Airport
by Citationflys at Citysearch
I fly to Chicago about 6-10 times a year. I love going into Midway. Midway is really easy to get in and out of compared to O'hare traffic isn't too bad around the airport either
- Pros: Close to everything
- Cons: shady area
Plays 2nd fiddle in the Second City

The Midway Airport in Chicago is boring. Ya, I know, that's not why you go to airports, but think about how much time you spend in them if you're a frequent travellor. Midway had an upgrade some years back but now it just seems like a big cavernous bore.
- Pros: Cheap airlines (in the good way)
- Cons: Orange Line takes forever to get there
Thank you for everything.

I want to thank you for your kindness and hospitality. My wife and I arrived in Chicago Midway Airport on the 17th at 12:30 AM. We had a lay over for 6 hours. Theirs was no one in the terminal except us, we heard we could be thier if we had tickets and ID. We pulled up 2 chairs together waiting for a long night. All of a sudden a Police woman came on some kind of riding devise. She told us we could stay their or if we want some rest, they have cot's, blankets, pillows at the end of the terminal. We went up their and at least got some rest. I just want to say thank you for everything, it was the4 nicest thing anone could have ever done. I've never seen an airport that provides that kind of service.
Thank You and God bless all of you who do a fantastic job.

Many economy carriers serve this smaller airport, which recently got a sparkling facelift.

Flying Out
Relatively small Midway is one of the fastest-growing airports in the country; it offers quick in-and-out travel with several discount airlines including Vanguard, ATA, National and Southwest. Renovations have added a new two-level terminal roadway, another terminal building, and more spacious ticket counters and baggage claim areas. The airport is easily reached via the El train's Orange Line, while a new six-level parking garage makes parking easier--allow extra time to get to your gate from both the El station and the garage.
Diversions
Midway's cheerful concession area broadens food options to include local favorites such as Harry Caray's, Lalo's Mexican Restaurant, Potbelly Sandwich Works and Gold Coast Dogs. Shop for Chicago souvenirs, candy, CDs and books. More shops, as well as the airport's first business center, are in the works.
A Work in Progress
by smudgecats at Citysearch
The recent upgrade was great, but only about 2/3rds of the gates are new. And the old ones (due to be replaced) are small and very crowded. And hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Still a better choice than the mess at O'Hare. Half the cab fare and much more compact.
Great low-cost carriers, too.
- Pros: Compact, Great Subway Access, Good Food Court
- Cons: Tough Connection to O, White-Knuckle Landing, Limited Aircraft Choi
Easiest airport in Chicago
by jeremy_23 at Citysearch
Newly redone, Midway is much closer to downtown, and quick and easy to get to via the Orange line train. The airport is also easy to access via local busses or even bicycle. Between ATA and Southwest you can get frequent service to just about any domestic city. For international service other than Mexico you'll probably still end up at O'hare.
- Pros: closest to downtown, easy access
- Cons: little international, large parking garage
Midway--The "other" airport
by BriCap at Citysearch
Now that Midway has been "redone" it is by far the better airport in the city. It is a little less convenient then O-Hare (less accessible, less airline selection) but avoiding the crowds and being able to dine in some of Midway's great restaurants makes it a terrific airport.
- Pros: Good Parking, Not crowded
- Cons: "Out" of the way, Limited airlines
