OFF THE LIST

There is a funky vibe in Bucktown as it is....but I gave this place two trys. The service absolutely kills this place. We had a waitress that came to the table after 10 minutes.I asked what kind of beer do you have on tap...she says what do i wanT?In disbelief,I asked for Harp...she said we don't have that...I said ok...for the second time what do you have? She replied 312.I asked if that was it? She said no.I then began a 5 minute guessing game...and finally ordered a Henikin in bottle. When that camme...as she delivered it with no glasses and holding it in her hands...i took a sip...and it was warm.I immediately told her...and she said she could get me an ice bucket.10 minutes later...with no ice bucket(been there now close to 30 minutes)...I walked up to the bar and asked him to put one in ice...10 minutes later she delived that in her hand.No set-ups...Just overall...Gordon Ramsey wouldn't even try to save this place!
- Pros: TV's
- Cons: Service Horrible
I can't think of anywhere else to go.
by Technomystic
I was hoping for a free beer at least for a good review but no luck.
Guess I'll still go there anyway. i feel like I'm in a rut, but I can't think of another place that's as comfortable and fun. Somebody please tell me a better place, I need to move on. I'm not stalking the waitresses really!
- Pros: Very friendly
- Cons: parking is horrific and valet is 10 bucks

The Scene
The Northside has survived in this wacky neighborhood for more than 15 years. The bar takes up almost all of one room, and a pool table takes up all of another. A street-side, glassed-in patio opens up in the summer. Service is friendly, but in keeping with the leisurely atmosphere, not always prompt. Weekend lunch is packed with young, attractive locals, offering prime people-watching and a chance to sit outside and drink in the atmosphere on a beautiful day. Nights get crowded before club-happy kids make thier way to the clubs.
The Draw
The Northside's food menu offers a basic assortment of starters (wings, calamari, hummus), salads, sandwiches (tuna, grilled chicken) and half-pound burgers, plus a few entrees like New York strip steak, grilled catfish, and linguini alfresco. The kitchen is open till 2am on weekends.
Cozy and Tasty Burgers

The best burger I have had in Chicago! Great drinks and breakfast stuff too!
- Pros: Burgers, Drinks, Inexpensive
- Cons: plastic chairs
Pretty cool chill place
by aharm
My friends and I like to come out here when we want to start out a nice relaxing evening. The restaurant and bar have a nice dimmly lit atmosphere. The waitresses are *hot*. I tried the catfish sandwich both times that I've been here. Excellent! I was surprized at the average ratings that other users have assigned to this cool place.
- Pros: Hip Bucktown, Hot Waitresses
Your Usual Neighborhood Place
by pixy_stix
The Northside Cafe (more like bar and grill) is a nice neighborhood place. I usually go there with friends and although the service is not so great (pretty slow) I usually have a good time. The food is okay - better than the regular bar food, but nothing to write home about. They have some good dishes. The service is about marginally better than Bar Louie down the street, but not as good as Silver Cloud (just next door to Bar Louie). Prices are average.
- Pros: Close to home, No surprises, Not too pricey
- Cons: Parking (if needed), Nothing special
Music on Saturdays is awful
by BigPimp
I have been to the Northside almost everyday of the week and can honestly say that it is always a great place to go, except on Saturday nights. The music is absolutely awful and way to loud. Our group could not even hear ourselves think. The place was empty where every other bar was packed and I would have to say it was because of the music. The really sad thing is that they had a DJ, so the bar was actually paying someone to make the place awful. Great place, just not on Saturday nights.
Service Sucks
by gundagiri
i read the previous reviews and thought people are just making up stuff about this place. Then, I went yesterday to eat dinner. The service was awfull. First, our hostess kept on bothering if we needed more alcohol, as if she wanted us to buy more, and then the food came about 1/2 hour after we ordered. Then after we had eaten, the waitress kept on asking us if we wanted more alcohol, trying to make more money. Eventually, the moment she brought the bill really killed our experience. She brought the bill and just, almost threw it, on our table and left. So ofcourse, thats the last time I am going there. I would say stay away from northside and there are plenty of bar&grills around there to go to.
