Treasure island may be expensive and have less selection than Jewel, but the chocolate chip mandel bread is amazing. I could eat it every day. It comes in a bag with a ribbon. Haven't found anything like it anywhere else. It's worth it to go to Treasure Island just for the mandel bread. The cheese selection is great too, but for the most part it's not worth it to get most things there. The mandel bread is to die for, though. It's at the bakery counter--usually in a basket with some other things.

This store is a great, if pricey, addition to the neighborhood. The bakery and meat departments are excellent, though promised sale items often never appear on the shelves. Seafood can be a bargain if you look for sales. Crab is often a good deal. A great selection of reasonably priced olive oils, pastas and other ethnic foods. Negatives: There's a steam table of hot foods ranging from mac and cheese to prime rib, but staff members have told me that the food is put out in the morning and just left to sit all day. It looks like it and tastes worse. Also, while there's a great selection of cheeses, the store doesn't seem to have a grater, using a blender or food processor on hard Romano and Parmesan cheeses. The result is, frankly, lousy, and far beneath the quality that a store with this much going for it should strive for.

I think this place is truely Amazing! They have everything I need, a true one stop shop. I was amazed by the deli and meat selections. They have anything you want for all occasions. My friend showed me this place, and i will never go anywhere else!

Besides being fairly gay unfriendly, the cashiers there are totally out of it ringing up items from other customers or even not ringing up items at all. A friend of mine got home and there were things in his bag that he hadn't purchased. Very strange. For a store that has a decent, but expensive that attracts gay customers, they need to be friendlier to gay people. One bagger has a serious problem with gay people. Beware!

Pros: Good selection of some hard to get gourmet items

Cons: Very gay unfriendly staff, especially a bagger in particular

I've been going to Treasure Island for years. Their skirt steak is better quality than Jewel or Dominicks. So's their fish. Watch the specialty breads (not their homemade) because I've found mold on it over and over. As for their produce, you can still get green onions by the bundle - not anymore at Jewel. You have to buy THREE in a package. So I go to Treasure Island more and more!

Pros: Not too crowded, Good meat, Fun to browse

Cons: Check expiration date, Be friendlier

I special ordered a cake for a friend's party and they spelled the word "apartment" wrong. I wrote a letter to the manager and bakery department, neither responded and when I called the bakery staff person was less than kind, basically she could care less. Customer Service ... I think not.

I have two sales receipts showing 13% sales tax on food items (HighTax 9% and CityTax 3%). My Dominick's Stubs do not add up to 13% What gives? A friendly store 'manager' tells me that the city sets the taxes on their cash registers and it was up to me to contact the city government.

The best thing about Treasure Island is that it combines hard-to-find speciality items with everyday things like Coke and Grape Nuts. Aisles are jam-packed with European crackers and chocolates, imported cheese and jellies and an especially great variety of vinegars and olive oils. The meat department is pretty solid, and the selection of organic chicken is respectable. The produce aisle is passable, though it lacks the glistening freshness and abundant selection of organics and farm-fresh items. Overall, this is a good place to shop. But yes, you may have to reach way in back to find a milk that doesn't expire in two days. Great staff. Friendly. Very Midwest.

Pros: Friendly staff, Great condiments, Superb cheese aisle

Cons: Pricier than needed, Not always fresh, So-so produce

I've been shopping here for many years. I only go once in a while for specialty items I can't get at a local grocery store. The deli is great.

Pros: large selections, deli

Cons: can be pricey

At first, this place was sold to me as a gourmet shop and I was pretty disappointed on my initial visit. To me, it pretty much looked like a crowded grocery store with a few specialty items thrown in. Since my first visit, I've been back several times and have come to appreciate everything this store has to offer. The olive bar has a great selection of olives sold by weight, the cheese selection is wonderful, the meat section is terrific. Lots of hard-to-find items (i.e. duck breast, caviar) , but there's also plenty of every-day stuff, too (cake mixes, cereal, cat food). It's great one-stop shopping if you're planning a meal and need a variety of groceries.

Pros: Parking lot, Good variety

Cons: Expensive, Crowded on weekends
