Reviews are overstated

by AlwaysOnTheRoad1 at Citysearch

I'm traveling on business and took a cab to this place based on the reviews. It was good - but not worth the $30 cab fare (round trip)...The chicken curry crepe was fine but they couldn't kick it up (as requested). Instead, I was brought a bottle of hot sauce. The chocolate crepe for dessert was OK - but the crepe was hard to cut - which to me is counter intuitive for a crepe. This place is fine if you're out and about in Chicago and need to grab lunch - but I wouldn't go out of my way.

  • Pros: Quaint back patio area
  • Cons: Food was mediocre - not worth a special trip

nutella crepe - yum!

by buffy1976 at Citysearch

This is a regular Saturday night stop for my husband and I. You will have to wait for a table, but you can sit at the bar and have a drink. The atmosphere is lovely, the waitstaff is attentive, and the crepes are fantastic. In the summertime, it is definitely worth the wait to sit out on the outdoors patio in the back. I highly recommend the french onion soup and save room for dessert- order the nutella crepe- you will thank me!

  • Pros: Outdoor seating, good date night
  • Cons: you will have to wait to be seated

The worst creperie ever!

by q101madmax at Citysearch

From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed by the smell of urine, cover your noses especially when you walk through the dirty old corridor to the non-smoking room in the back. Unfriendly, slow service. Dirt and smell of old, dusty furniture. My friend had coq au vin crepe - she had to force herself to have a second bite, she was so hungry. I had seafood crepe. The ingredients on menu were: shrimp and scallops. I'm honest as can be, there was shrimp (about 10, tasted like rubber) and one scallop. I had to look for it, it was half the size of my nail. I didn't taste the scallop, maybe it was something else altogether. We asked for check after the first bite and went to a nearby place for best waffles in the world - BALADOCHE - saved my morning and made my day.

  • Pros: What?
  • Cons: Everything

Great Atmosphere

by almg at Citysearch

We went for a light supper after a movie just to try it out. I always thought it was just a little storefront, and wasn't sure what to expect but we walked in and felt like we'd been suddenly whisked away to France! The restaurant extends to the back and is filled with warmth and friendly chatter. The crepes were excellent and the service was great. We can't wait to go back!

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, Excellent crepes, Attentive service
  • Cons: Parking could be hard

Consistently Great

by hmajor at Citysearch

La Creperie's consistency over the years in the quality and value of all of the items on the menu is outstanding. Don't forget to try the salad, and the chocolate crepes are not to be missed!

Lakeview couples make a meal of crepes at this long-time Clark Street favorite.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
A fixture since 1972, this French spot exudes a romantic feel, with wooden tables and simple red and white plates. Onion soup gratinee is a flavorful starter, but the focus is on savory and sweet crepes. Favorites include ratatouille crepe filled with squash, zucchini, eggplant, onion and carrots, and seafood crepe with shrimp and scallops in a light cream sauce. For dessert, the Grand Marnier crepe is fluffy and moist, seasoned with liqueur.

Very French, very charming.

by wordboyd at Citysearch

If you're looking for a modest, pleasant, truly French bistro, La Creperie is it. Warm and cozy in the winter; in the summer, the back garden and front room with open doors invite you to linger over food and wine. The food is not four star dining, but it's tasty, satisfying bistro fare--savory and dessert crepes, steak frites... Decent wines by the bottle or glass and friendly, unhurried service. All in all, you'd be hard pressed to find a more charming, more relaxing, less pretentious dining experience than this.

  • Pros: ambience, service, food

A hidden gem..C'est Magnefique!

by ringone at Citysearch

Creperie is one of the best places in Chicago, hands down. Family owned, great atmosphere, amazing wines, and some of the best French onion soup this side of anywhere. Especially great in the summer, when they open up their back garden to the sun and the summer breezes. Go now, ask for my man Jeremy, and say Stephen sent ya!

  • Pros: inexpensive, ambiance, food
