Yen's - basic chinese formula done exceptionally well
by AnandV
I must say i really appreciate Yen's. It's not inventive, pioneering cuisine by any means. But it is chinese food done exceedingly well. The flavors are balanced, and the kitchen obviously takes great pride in what they do. Today there is so, so much bad chinese food out there, that it is truly refreshing to find a place like Yen's which does what it does great! This is an excellent restaurant for basic chinese food- it is WAY BETTER THAN CHEN'S on clark street.
- Pros: excellent pott stickers, won ton soup, kung pao chicken
- Cons: none
Amazing
by Virg3704
Very good chinese food. The waiter was very friendly and they totally were willing to work with me when I wanted to change some things about my order! The prices are great as well. My boyfriend and I usually pay around $20 for both of us. In this area that is a bargain
- Pros: quick service, very friendly
- Cons: parking
Best Shrimp & Chicken Fried Rice
by optionsrusrealry
Let me just say that I am not a fan of Chinese Food but my husband loves it. He took me to Yen's on one of our first dates, over 13 years ago and I love this place. We have been coming to Yen's for a very long time and the carry out is always as good as when you are dinning in. The Foods is excellant, the shrimp rolls are to die for and the food is never greasy. I have turned many people out to this place and they just keep coming back. Charlie and the rest of the staff are great. Highly Recommended.

Great food, great prices, great service. I have ordered Yen's for delivery several times and have been impressed on all accounts. The food is delicious, and having just recently moved from New York City (where good Chinese is plentiful), I have to say that Yen's is one of the best. The prices are also very reasonable and the service is quick and friendly. I have not yet dined in the restaurant, but every time I walk by it seems inviting. Try the orange chicken - delicious!
- Pros: Great food, reasonable prices, friendly service
Best Chinese!
by kmg103
I eat at Yen's about once a week. Everything I have ordered has been great! The meat is always lean and fresh-- not scary like some Chinese places. By far the best Chinese in the city!
- Pros: Cheap, tasty, fresh
- Cons: delivery charge
Great Chinese food!!
by jandy830
This may be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Chicago. A combination of delicious sauces, quality meat/seafood and fresh vegetables. The restaurant itself is very clean and pleasant. I would definitely recommend dining there with the attentive service. I will not eat Chinese food anywhere else!
- Pros: Food, Service
Its just ok
by sootnthai
I went here recently and had the orange chicken, it was alright and all, but there was a big piece of bone that I nearly choked on. The service was so-so, after seeing other reviews, perhaps they were having an off night.
- Pros: Alright food, Decent atmosphere
- Cons: so-so service
Best Healthy Stir-Fry
by gweniver15
Chinese can be so greasy and fatty...Yen's offers a "Stir-Fry Delight" that uses minimal oil and 15 different veggies. I order it to-go all the time! Worth every penny.
BEST CHINESE EVER!!!
by steelers2607
We order from Yen's about once a week, it is by far the best Chinese food we've had and that includes Chinatown. They put lots of veggies in their dishes and everything is really fresh and perfectly spiced.
- Pros: Fresh, Spicy, Delicious
Excellent Chinese food
by wlevitt
The Chinese food here is very good---especially enjoyed the sesame beef and spicy pork. Service is also very attentive but allow a lot of time as they can get slow when it gets busy. If you're in Lakeview, the best choice for Chinese cuisine. Visited again in August 2007 and everything was as great as previous visits.
