My friends and I came into town to watch the Cubs game from Los Angeles. After the game we stumbled into The Irish Oak just looking for a beer before we went home. A couple of beers later we ordered some food from the menu. Everything we ordered was great but the Corned Beef Sandwich & The Shepherd's Pie were the best we ever tasted! The service was great too! Sarah, our bartender was very cool. She was helpful in recommending food from the menu and drinks from the bar. Our short 6 hour stay at The Irish Oak was one of the best parts of our trip to Chicago.

  • Pros: Great food and beer selection.

The Scene
Set in the heart of Wrigleyville, the two-room bar is a low-lit, casual hangout with all that real Irish charm many other area pubs strain for, as everything here has been imported from the home country. The stereo plays a mixture of traditional Celtic and modern Irish tunes (U2, Van Morrison) to accommodate the 20- and 30-somethings crowded into booths, banquettes and tables. People come from near and far for eclectic live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The Draw
On inevitably crowded weekends, the Guinness and Murphy's Stout taps can hardly keep up, but the mostly Irish staff is cheerful and attentive. On the food menu, there are some nicely presented entrees and Gaelic specialties like fish-and-chips, Irish stew, corned beef sandwiches, and Galway Bay smoked salmon. Savor the all-day Irish breakfast of imported Irish bacon, black-and-white pudding (blood sausage), eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and beans any time you like.

On the off chance you leave BEFORE the end of a Cub game, GO HERE. The atmosphere is unmatched and whether the back is open or not, the Pints flow!!! The earlier you get there on game day the better your view (of everybody).

Not a pick up place but the best at sit down, drink, enjoy, converse, and did I say enjoy?

  • Pros: Service, Drinks, Atmosphere

On the Wrigleyville strip where most bars are competing to be the most trendy, The Oak just feels more like home. The staff is very friendly and extremely attentive. The Irish Stew is the best I've ever eaten! The live music never fails to please and they serve up a mean pint of Guinness that's hard to top unless you travel to Europe. The decor is authentic which, with everything considered, makes the Oak a true Irish pub.

  • Pros: Great Service!, Excellent Food, Friendly Staff
  • Cons: Drunk Cubs Fans

This is not a after work bar. I was there last Friday.

I was one of five people. This is a great bar late night or cubs games. Please take it off the after work list.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good beer and excellent food. Real Irish band on Wednesday nights and regular music / bands on Friday and Saturdays. In staggering distance of Wrigley Field, must be the best place in a large radius for an excellent night out.

  • Pros: atmospheric, music, good food
  • Cons: no outdoors area

Gotta love the attention you receive while in the Oak. The Lawless' know how to treat their customers!

The Bar has one of the best pints of Guinness around Chicago!

  • Pros: frest beer, good music, great staff
  • Cons: often crowded, downstairs bathroom
