I always love it here

by Ty1982

I love going to boys town and this is my fav. place to go. I can always have a good time here even if its not the weekend and not too crowded. I enjoy that the DJ is not cocky like at some places, (you know the types) when I ask for a song its not a big deal and I'm sure to hear it before I leave.

The bartenders are friendly and good at suggesting drinks that are on special and there are always plenty to try. I have never had a problem with parking or bouncers or anything. The only down side is that there is sometimes a cover charge and I'm not to sure when that is. Its been kind of luck of the draw for me at the door, not sure if they just decide who they're charging.

I LOVE the crowd. Gay or straight, male or female I like that its always a mixed very diverse crowd. When I come here I know I'm going to have a good time, maybe get a little naughty and dance my worries away.

THANK YOU BERLIN FOR BEING ABOVE THE REST

  • Pros: Excellant DJ, nice bartenders, cheap drinks, good crowd
  • Cons: cover charge some times at the door

A welcoming place!!

by CherrieMoon

I visited Chicago for the first time as an adult with my sisters over Memorial Day weekend and THE most enjoyable experience was Prince Night!! Okay, I love Prince and I would have enjoyed this idea almost anywhere but this club was awesome. The DJ wasn't the greatest at mixing, but he had a pretty good idea how to keep the crowd happy. One bartender blatantly ignored me but the other made it up for that because he was fantastic, professional AND he made great drinks! It's not a huge place, but people were dancing, enjoying themselves and leaving the judgmental attitudes at the door. I'd love to go there again!!

  • Pros: People, Music, Location
  • Cons: Kinda small...

freaks and geeks

by secretjoe

The most open-minded place in Chicago -- gay and straight mingle here, drink a huge amount, smoke, dance (sometimes better, sometimes worse), and, yes, engage in (mostly consensual) touching. If you are a wilting lilly, you will not like it here; nor are white-hatted fratboys welcome (unless gay.) Men who attend are either cut and friendly gay men, or freaks like me who enjoy the anything-goes atmosphere and the complete absence of attitude. In many ways a bit like Mos Eisley's Cantina, the rumor is the Bjork considers it a place to stop by when she passes through the city.

  • Pros: friendly to a fault
  • Cons: not for the shy or unfabulous

great music bad-management

by medina_j

We were out Monday nite. The music was great, and it was fine that there was only four people dancing - but when a taller man, long-haired bare-chested, and in a harness- mind you this was all fine- when he came up - without introducing himself, and put his nose in my friends hair- that was it!

We left that place quickly. My friends were very upset, they yelled all the way back to the apartment.

I am not being biased about this. I love Berlin. I dance there regularly. But when we are accosted by unfriendly people- we say something.

Best of Midwest ...!

by rudy_3

Berlin got to be one of the most open minded clubs in da' Midwest. At least is located in cool part of Chi-town. Being hispanic/new to the Midwest ...heard about it while shopping downtown. Cover is inexpensive and the drinks are nice/strong. Crowd is so mixed that I seen straight, gay, lesbian, bi, tv's, young, all ages /w entorage, superfreaks & 21srt Century Party Kids. Da' girls tend to get pretty Hot'nwild on New Year's Party. Love that everyone is friendly. When the music gets vicious & crowded ...one can always get on the pedestals to show your stuff. Music always thumping on Fridays/Sat. Come to explore your wild-side. If you are not open-minded, stay home. Just one hr away from me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Going to miss it, when I return home ...to party some more in da' DIRTY SOUTH.

  • Pros: Friendly, Inexpensive, Hardcore Dancing
  • Cons: Nothing

EXTREMELY TOUCHY FEELY!!!!

by wannawoowoo

Berlin is one of the most raciest clubs I have been to. The cover is extremely reasonable, the drinks are highly potent (trust me on that!!!!!), and there is plenty of dancing and music to dance to. The club is very mixed (more gay, little straight). As a black guy, I was in the minority there, but that was by no means a disadvantage. I got to dance with anyone & everyone plus some. For those of you who does not like to be touched (you know what I mean!), Berlin is not the club for you. You will be touched in appropriate, and mostly none appropriate places. Those guys (and girls!!!) are really vicious. Close time is perfect. Please don't think I work for the Berlin, because I do not. But this is the most diverse, happening, freakiest, cheapest for your buck spot out there. Highly recommended!!!

  • Pros: Low Cover, Great Drink Prices, Freaky people
  • Cons: Coat check, Can get very crowded

Their D.J. Chester spins one of the most eclectic sets in the city; usually, when you have a d.j. attempt to encompass all genres of music, it backfires. In this case, he'll have you grooving to music you didn't know you like. He usually spins on Saturday and Sunday nights.

  • Pros: people watching, diverse crowd, hefty cocktails
  • Cons: no parking

Fun to be had by all!

by debanddogmurphy

I went there twice (Thurs, Friday) and I like it. There is good music and a dancefloor. Crowd is cute, but very very mixed of all types. Drinks are good. Space is small and a dump, but the crowd makes it cool.

I would go back.

Practically anything goes at this flamboyant Lakeview dance club.

by Jennifer Olvera

The Scene
Long known as one of the city's premier gay bars, this hetero-friendly spot still pulls out all the stops, thanks to grinding beats and no-holds-barred dancing. Whether cutely coiffed, shirtless or dressed in all-out drag, guys here (and their female entourages) know how to get down and dirty, making the vivid '60s-meets-'70s decor--wood-paneled walls with bold polka-dot cutouts--a mere backdrop; dark exterior windows keep inside antics under wraps.

The Draw
This is raciness at its best, particularly past midnight. Berlin is full of gay, gay-curious and gay-loving individuals chugging Jager shots, froufrou drinks and standard mixed potions. Rotating DJs regularly spin danceables from Fischerspooner, the Streets and Ladytron, but the vibe can vary greatly from night to night. For a dance club, drinks are surprisingly cheap and hefty.
