Great for watching sports and Yummy Bar Food.

by carebear16

This is a sports bar with some great food. They have wonderful salads, which is sounds funny for a bar but they really are delicious. They also have great appetizers from the pretezls, to the mini sliders to the mac and cheese bites that are so good! They usually have some sort of food and drink specials each night if you are on a budget. During the day and dinner is a mix of people, later in the evening it is a much younger crowd.

  • Pros: Mac & Cheese Bites, Yummy Salads, Drink & Food Specials Every Night
  • Cons: Can be a young crowd.

Worst Service Ever Experienced

by bifrojm

I used to love Schoolyard, but that was before I started to regularly get charged for more than what I ordered. The first couple times I chalked it up to busy nights or bad bartenders. However, my limits were finally tested when I was charge almost $60 for about $30 in drinks. I brought this up to the bartenders attention. It was then that the manager (from off to the side) mouthed off to me. I tried to explain what happened, but he kept talking down to me including asking me "what do you want me to do to make you go away?" and then saying "i'll give you twenty bucks to shut up". one of the bouncers actually had to hold him back. it was absurd. i have never experienced such poor service in my life.

Smart-looking Southport bar that's comfortable for the neighborhood's jocks and preppies.

The Scene
A collegiate theme comes off unexpectedly prim, like Princeton circa the 1950s. High tin ceilings, shelves of books, wood trim and plaid wallpaper suggest a classy old-school library--though one thankfully outfitted with a massive mirrored bar. The back room has more sit-down space for dining, and its own smaller bar; additional sidewalk seating is perfect for sipping Blue Moons on summer nights.

The Draw
An amiable staff, 16 draft and 12 bottled beers, and more than a dozen TVs--including a projection screen in the front room--keep the Schoolyard bustling with post-collegiate Wrigleyvillians even midweek. An above-average food menu includes sandwiches (varsity steak), appetizers (crab cake Rangoon), salads (the Ivy Leaguer), and entrees like lamb chops and fish tacos. An after-work visit to this corner tavern can easily last late into the night, as you are surrounded by loud, but well-mannered company.

  • Pros: Nice look, good foodbeer selectionpopular
  • Cons: Crowdedtough parking

Great Hang Out

by 525

Schoolyard has become one of my favorite hang outs. Great crowd, friendly staff, relaxed environment. I was also excited to see that they now have outside seating for the summer. They have great food too - I would suggest the chicken tortilla soup, rueben rolls, and if you have room for dessert go for the skillet cookie. Great wrigleyville bar.

  • Pros: good food, great crowd, friendly staff
