Horrible service
by porter1911
This place was a favorite up until a few weeks ago when we came to see a certain band and was not given a good reason why the band did not show.... We were treated very badly by the staff..... A Mr Tully was not very kind to us....but the doorman told us to stick around and have a drink on him..... i would not recommend this place......
- Pros: food was ok
- Cons: management was awful
Great Breakfast on the Weekends
by brianb22
This is one of my favorite spots for breakfast on the weekends. The cajun influence in the breakfast makes it different then most places and they have great bloody mary's as well. It is a great place to stay and watch the bear's game after you eat as well.
- Pros: Great Cajun Breakfast
- Cons: occasional wait
New Orleans-inspired restaurant and bar on Southport Avenue.
by Contributor
In Short
Drawing a pre- and post-movie crowd from Music Box Theater, this dark, woody space is peppered with Mardi Gras beads, black and white Herman Leonard prints and New Orleans memorabilia. Piped-in zydeco music accents Big Easy dishes like bayou crab cakes with mustard creme fraiche. Flash-fried crawfish tails are served with three dipping sauces. For entrees, expect jambalaya, gumbo, etouffee and po'boys.
- Pros: solid Cajun/Creole faregreat location
- Cons: may be too spicy for somepricey drinks
Good food, Atmosphere
by jkl969
Enjoyed the New orleans decor. Very comfortable booths, relaxed atmosphere for lunch. Food was excellent (Po Boys, Gumbo, Popcorn Crawfish) Would have liked to try the crabcakes, but they were out. Price was reasonable, service was friendly; all-in-all a cool little place on the best restaurant block in Chicago. Can't wait to see it at night.
- Pros: Atmosphere
Disappointed, big time...
by runchicago
My family & friends have been loyal customers here since it opened a few years ago and were recently treated so unbelievably poorly. We rented out the upstairs room for a private birthday party and the room was double-booked, it was overcrowded & our evening was completely ruined, plus they closed the bar on us earlier than promised. In a shotty attempt to make up for this huge mistake the owner offered us another party but we have yet to hear from him... As paying customers and longtime fans, disappointed is a huge understatement; needless to say we will never go back.
- Pros: food
- Cons: customer loyalty, service
Cool Atmosphere

If you love New Orleans, you'll love this place! Great old mardi gras and New Orleans photos all over the place, big booths, good service, and great food! I got a turkey bacon cheddar rollup and it was so good and my boyfriend got a chicken sandwich which was huge! Not a fan of gumbo so I didn't try it, but I would bet it's really good. Definitely a good place to go to, for drinks or for dinner.
- Pros: Ambience, Food, Service
- Cons: Parking
ELVISLAND On Wednesday Nights Is FANTASTIC!
by 36_24_36
I went to Blue Bayou to see Mark "Elvis" Hussman's show, Elvisland with a group of friends on a Wednesday night...ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! The show was amazing and the crowd was a blast. "Elvis" sang requests and dedications as the audience called them out...He sang "Love Me Tender" for us! What a wonderful voice!!! He does all of the authentic Elvis moves! Mark is positively the most handsome and charismatic Elvis we've ever seen! We sat in "The Napoleon Booth" and had dinner before the show...I have to say that the food at Blue Bayou is the tastiest New Orleans style cuisine I've had in Chicago...We had huge Po-Boys, Gumbo, Etouffe, and Steak... AND AT GREAT PRICES! We're looking forward to spending many more Wednesday nights at Blue Bayou for Elvisland ... ELVIS LIVES...LONG LIVE THE KING!!!
- Pros: Fantastic Elvis Show!, Great Food & Prices!, Fun Crowd!
- Cons: No Parking, No Weekend "E" Show, Limited Seating
Best Food and Service this year
by ringler
As far as cocktails, I highly recommend the Voodoo Doll Martini. They also serve up some tasty margaritas! The best appetizers were the screaming orange chicken wings and Bayou crab cakes. I also enjoyed the Seafodd Gumbo (compared to Shaw's, they rank #1). What else can I say, this new hot spot is the place to be this summer!
- Pros: inexpensive, friendly crowd, great selection
- Cons: can get crowded
"Let the Good Times Roll"
by kenschoendorf
"Let the Good Times Roll" seems to be a mantra of the place, and it's very much true. More than anything, eating there was fun. I would recommend coming early or late if you want to dine, as the bar gets crowded, but with a good energy.
I've eaten there a couple of times but strongly recommend anything with seafood, the chef seems to have a knack with it.
The food is good and authentic. The service is outstanding, and the ambiance is phenomenal. It's truly beautiful inside with ornate woodwork, gorgeous chandeliers, and fascinating artwork and sculptures.
This is a great neighborhood place and a perfect place to take out-of-towners because Southport has become such a fun area.
Can't wait to go there during summer, when I guess they're going to have a lot of outside dinning.
