Like the atmosphere in this west of the Kennedy location. Of course your experience here depends on the stylist, and happily I found Allen Addington who moved to Roots recently. With years of experience, Alan is fabulous working with hair--doesn't create a style du jour thinking it will work for everyone. End result is easy care and manageability, which I love. Alan got the color right as well. He's finished two years at the Art Institute, has a great eye for color and design sense. You will get his full attention in this non-frenetic salon. Go!
Pros: ambience, Aveda products, Allen
Cons: parking can be a challenge some days/times

Just added on a new massage therapist Erica. Got a massage yesterday and it was great. She got all the right spots, and there was relaxing music, hot towels and everything. Very nice and very professional. Will book one again soon cause it was super affordable.

Allen is fantastic. He was my stylist many years ago and then I moved away from Chicago. After being away for nearly 10 years, I was THILLED to have found him back! His cuts are flawless. His color choices and techniques will have strangers stopping you on the street telling you how fantastic your hair looks! He truly is an artist in every sense. I'm a "lifer" with Allen and will never let anyone else touch my hair!

The type of salon that tends to "overthink" things, tries/wants to be original, when maybe you just want what you're comfortable with and what you want, but they try to make you think they can make you look so much better, and their technique is superb to whatever you had before. Not to my liking.

My experience with Allen has been nothing short of fantastic, every single time. He never rushes me, I feel like he almost cuts each strand of hair individually. It's his meticulous approach to cutting and styling that brings me back. His professional, yet easy going attitude allows for me to come in, unwind and relax. When I followed him to Roots, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice everyone is. When you walk in, the place just smells good from all of the Aveda products. I look forward to going back there.

I'm so glad I found Allen to do my hair again! He's very patient and actually listens to your ideas for cuts and color. And if you don't have any ideas that day, he really puts thought into making your hair a work of wearable art and makes you your stylish best! He's got tons of experience and has studied Vidal Sassoon, Toni and Guy (you know, the Bedhead people!), Wella, Rusk, etc. You won't be disappointed!
Pros: Allen Addington-stylist.
Cons: Kinda far from my neighborhood.

When I arrived, my stylist's work area was a mess, including hair all over the chair. She apologized about the floor but I had to brush the chair off myself. She did a decent job with the color but didn't really have any creative suggestions. She gave me a very relaxing shampoo. When it came to the cut, she disagreed with me quite a bit about what I was asking for. I've worn my hair that way before, and I didn't think it looked that bad (who knows, maybe I looked hideous) but what happened to "the customer is always right"? After the cut, she dried my hair, put a little hairspray in, and said, "okay, what do you think?" I have straight, fine hair that requires some handiwork and styling products to achieve an acceptable amount of volume. After I told her this, she said, "well that's what you're going to have to do." Basically, she did not style my hair at all. I had to go home and wash it again so that I could style it myself. Thank goodness I didn't have plans immediately after my appointment. Fortunately, the cut turned out OK, but for $60+ a cut, I should look better than I would if I did my own hair.

Bria at Roots is fantastic. She is totally the kind of hair stylist who makes you feel good about your hair, your life, and who you are as a person. And my cut is exactly what I wanted! I brought in some pictures to give her an idea of what I wanted, and she looked at them and talked to me about what was good, what wasn't, and what would work well on me. It's great when stylists take time like that--it results a goo hair cut. The salon itself is nice, too--calming environment and everyone is friendly. Not at ALL pretentious! It's on the expensive side - $60 for a cut, but absolutely worth it! Highly recommended.
Pros: Great hair cut, nice people, relaxing environment
Cons: Somewhat expensive

i went here on the recommendation of a friend and loved my experience. i loved my hair and the salon was relaxing and fun. i had two different stylists, once was for a cut and the other was for a color and both of them did a great job. i have sent several of my friends there and they also enjoyed the atmosphere. highly recommended!
