Sad Valentines Day Surprise
by RomeroJ
I agree....what happened? I went there on Vday to finally share my favorite breakfast place with my honey and it was gone!
Where did they go???
by Chill77
This was the best weekend breakfast spot in the Printers Row area!!! Seems they have either moved or closed this location.. If anyone knows where they moved please let me know!!!!!!
Save yourself the disappointment, go someplace else!

I guess Orange on Harrison is the place for you if high-priced, mediocre food and bad service is your thing. Prepare to wait anywhere from 20-45 minutes to be seated. On the day I went, they were more concerned over shooting a video for the Travel Channel then serving good food or good service. How much would I love to tell the Travel Channel to try shooting down the street at a really good restaurant like Yolk on 11th and Michigan or Room 12 on Wabash and Roosevelt. Will NEVER go back to Orange!!!
Disappointed

I'm a regular at the Bongo Room (utterly exceptional) and Yolk (not gourmet but gets the job done) and I thought I'd try something new with Orange. I ordered the Chai Tea French Toast, which waited under heating lamp -the kitchen was visible from my table- for 10 minutes before arriving. My boyfriend ordered an omelette. The initial appeal with this place was its innovative concepts for dishes, however the execution left much to be desired. My french toast was literally served in a bowl of hot chai tea (not a chai spread, or topping). It was a disgusting soggy mess! My boyfriend's omelette was decent but the bright green avocado mousse topping was rather disconcerting to look at. Again, I think their concepts sound great but certainly don't taste it. Bongo Room is much better and also has unique dishes.
- Pros: Fresh Juice; Unique Menu; Appears To Be Healthy?
- Cons: Poor Execution; Slow Service (& the waitress forgot to add our student discount); Uncomfortable Seating
BEST BREAKFAST PLACE IN CHICAGO
by IAHawkeyeGirl
My husband and I love this place. We get to Chicago about 3 times a year and always make a point of going to Orange, at least once on each visit. The unique dishes are great and the fresh juice is incredible. My favorite is champange pancakes -- they came with a chocolate covered strawberry. YUM. My husband adores the baked oatmeal that you eat with fork. The Green Eggs and Ham are good, but not one of my top 2 choices.
We go here for breakfast and skip lunch because we are so full. My only complaint is that I usually get too much food. You can get a discount on Parking if you have them validate your ticket.
- Pros: Fresh Squeezed Juice (mix and match fruits to custom create your own flavor)
- Cons: Parking cost (but this is Chicago, everywhere costs to park)
Good but not good enough to wait an hour
by razuuun
So I went here on a Sunday morning and expected to wait to be seated. Side note it was the weekend of Lollapalooza and the resturant is close to Grant Park. So anyways when we put my name on the list they gave an estimate of one hour twenty minutes or less probably. So after a walk up the block to Starbucks for a quick coffee we walked back and we were called about 45 minutes from the time we gave our names to the host. The server was frinedly and came quickly after being seated. Once we ordered it did take about 30 minutes before the food arrived at the table which didn't seem unreasonably since the place was full.
As for the food I ordered the Chai Tea French Toast which came in a bowl so it wasn't that easy to cut up.
How did it taste? Well it wasn't bad and it was an interesting change from the normal breakfast food I am used to. SO it definitely gets points for originality and less for taste. And my g/f ordered the Jelly Donut Pancakes which were just pancakes hollowed out and fresh fruit was put in the middle. She wasn't overly impressed to say the least. I guess this sounds like a bad review of the place but overall it was a good experince and I would definitely give them another shot if I make it back to Chicago. Lots of people around us were ordering the Pancake Flights which is there speciality so that is the way I would go next time. If you don't mind waiting for some interesting breakfast menu twists I say check this place out.
- Pros: Twists on normal breakfast
- Cons: The wait to be seated
Innovative menu that doesn't please everyone
by chowfunner
I've taken many friends to this restaurant and the opinions are usually mixed. The food is quite innovative, but some of the dishes work better than others. The wait can be long and the service can be lean, so try to beat the rush or show up after 1:30pm.
- Pros: Breakfast with a twist
- Cons: Service, value, comfort
Terrible Service
by mip189
I?ll give Orange this much, the food was good, but not great. Everything else about the place was terrible?service, wait staff, the 45 min it took to get my food! Every time I asked what the hold up was, I was told that I had come during the rush, which consisted of a half full restaurant. My recommendation, go to one of the countless other breakfast joints in Chicago.
funky decor

excellent service, the mix of fresh juice was refreshing. great house coffee, large portions unless you are starving plan on sharing. Had excellent breakfast Burrito special, they should make it a regular menu item
- Pros: fast service
- Cons: some of the specials are too expensive for breakfast
I want ketchup!
by rushmore_academy
I have been to Orange twice and had a very similar experience both times. The menu is fantastic for breakfast-lovers who want something adventurous and inexpensive. Innovative omlets make up for the fact that you can't build your own. They even slam the concept of "build your own" on the menu, telling customers seeking this feature to go somewhere with "Golden" in the name. As a fan of Chicago's traditional breakfast restaurants, I didn't appreciate this jab and it comes off as needlessly snobby for this kind of place.
The service is what really bothered me both times, although I just blamed it on our particular server the first time. They may be understaffed. Both times, I was served my meal with potatoes and no bottle of ketchup. Maybe ketchup with a breakfast platter is too low-brow diner for them, but I can't eat this kind of food without the heavenly condiment. Both times, I requested a bottle of ketchup and waited for about ten minutes, forcing me to remind the server the next time around. Both servers had completely forgotten my request. The second time, my wife was served a glass of juice without a straw. We had to wait another five minutes to flag down a server and request a straw. This lack of service just made the servers' attempts at perky, jokey, friendliness very annoying.
So, the food is nice for a change from the typical breakfast fare, but you might want to avoid the weekend to see if the service is better.
