I'm a hamburger guy. Can't beat that hamburger ANYWHERE!
by binderman
I've been eating hamburgers everywhere in the world for more years than I care to remember. Any place I visit I always make sure I have a hamburger at what is rated the Best hamburger in town. If I didn't live in Chicago ( and I'm fortunate that I do ), I would fly back just to have a hamburger at Poag Mahone's. Need I say more.
Solid place

1/2 price food just about everyday. Nice place to grab a drink after work, lots of traders and business people in a low-key environment.
Love It! Food - Love it! cost- Love it! Clean Bathrooms
by mich
Every time I go out and have a drink I find myself using the restroom and let me just say using the rest room at anyplace in Chicago can be a nasty event. But at Poag, thank god, I have only had clean experience. I know that sounds silly but I'm glade the people who run Poag's don't think so. And did I say they have great burgers, better than I make at home. I love that the name of the bar means "up your butt. That's funny to me. I told the manager last time I was in how great the service was but he already knows so thats way I am writing this little review.
I hope they open more of them.
- Pros: Love It All
- Cons: Only One of them
Business-casual types stop by for tasty hamburgers and after-work cocktails and at this cheery Irish pub in the Insurance Exchange Building.

The Scene
A crossbreed of Irish pub and executive office suite, Poag's features a dark-wood bar, burgundy leather barstools and sepia-toned photos. A stained glass partition splits the warmly lit room in two--the bar side is narrow and bustling, with chest-high rectangular tables; the non-bar side is spread out, with square, restaurant-style tables. Men in their 30s, 40s and silver-haired 50s hang casual in crewneck sweaters and Dockers and puff the odd cigar. Studious-looking women in glasses dot the groups. Everyone converses with noisy abandon, so one barely hears the ESPN- and CNN-tuned TVs suspended bar-side.
The Draw
Rocks glasses swirl with Irish whiskeys and single-malt scotches--a mind-boggling array lines the bar under a quirky ceramic dog collection--and tap-drawn Guinness and Harp crown the beer selection. The menu showcases burgers, turkey, roast beef, corned beef and pulled pork sandwiches, tossed salads and traditional bar appetizers.
Great place to meet after work ...
by mso_chicago
When you work as a computer consultant like I do, you need a good central place to meet your buddies after work in the Loop. Poag's is near enough to everyone and has excellent burgers and a good selection of beers. Nothing like a tall glass of Guiness to start your evening right ....
- Pros: Great Burgers, Guiness!!, Good central location
- Cons: Isn't in the suburbs!
Great Service!
by snedas
Great place to go for drinks afterwork or for a quick lunch. The staff is always friendly and will go out of their way to make sure you're well taken care of. They have nightly drink specials too, for those looking for a good deal!
- Pros: Great service, comfortable, good prices
