The Amalfi is REALLY Romantic
by AmberMi
February 11, 2009
My boyfriend and I just needed a quick getaway and some alone time together. We hadn't stayed at the Amalfi before but heard good things about it so we decided to give it a try. We REALLY lucked out - this hotel is GREAT! They had just finished with a renovation of their lobby. I don't know what the lobby looked like before but it looks really great. My boyfriend was staring at this wavy wall the entire time while I checked us into the hotel. The free breakfast & food and drinks and night were a nice touch and helped us out when it came to our budget. Love the Amalfitini! Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
- Pros: Romantic, Friendly, Great Location, Free Wifi

I feel like this boutique hotel is trying to be fancier than it really is. The rooms were nothing special, pretty small, no view. The rooms are nowhere near sound-proof. I heard every door in my wing open and close all night long making it a rough night sleep. They do offer a free happy hour and continental breakfast. Next time I'm in Chicago for business, I'll try the Renaissance across the street or the Westin in the Loop.
Great Value for The Price

I got a deal on orbitz and found a Friendly and helpful staff, free top shelf cocktails from 530-7 every night, free continental breakfast, and a very desirable location - walking distance from everything. I would recommend without hesitation!
- Pros: Free Booze, Free Wi-Fi, Friendly Staff, Great Location
- Cons: No Swimming Pool

I found a great deal on one of the travel websites and I must say I was nervous since I had not heard of Amalfi before. The fact is you just never know what you're going to get when you go to a hotel that's not a chain hotel. Never the less we decided to check it out and we were more than pleased! The staff were great... It was very European and modern. There's a continental breakfast every morning and it was great. The room was spacious enough and comfortable and most important clean. The hotel is close enough to walk to shopping. We were overall pleased!
Great Style and Nicely Appointed

This is a pleasant change from your big chain hotel groups. Very European and very comfortable. You can find some good deals at this great location.
- Pros: Good Change From national Chain Hotels
- Cons: None

We stayed here for a weekend and received a great internet rate, especially for the service and level of furnishings provided. The hotel is quite small and located convenient to the Magnificent Mile and the El stops. The construction occurring outside our window was not very romantic, but couldn't have been avoided. The staff was somewhat short but kind and efficient. The breakfast reception and evening cocktails were of very high quality and a definite perk to staying there. Although cutting modern decor isn't our favorite, this hotel was designed with a tasteful and restrained manner. We would definitely return for another leisure stay.
- Pros: Morning and evening receptions, new high-quality decor, general ambience
- Cons: Surrounding construction, somewhat small size.

The decor wonderful, the staff so attentive and the perks are worth the price, I would HIGHLY recommended anyone staying at this hotel...the turn down services helps to end a busy exciting day in Chicago. Make sure that you wake up early for breakfast and don't forget the free cocktails on the 6th floor at 5:30PM every night!! I loved my stay and would stay again!
- Pros: very friendly staff, cocktail reception, wonderful light breakfast
- Cons: some views restrickted

Great location, in walking distance to River North, Magnificent Mile, the Loop. I stayed 3 nights. The sleek furnishings were very comfortable - I appreciated the easy chair with ottoman especially - and the colors were warm and inviting (yellow towels, pastel sheets). Pillows and bed were very comfortable. Staff very warm and helpful. The free continental breakfast on each floor was very nice - actually had very good coffee and top quality danish, muffins, sweet breads, croissants, etc. Price was the best in the area. And the scale was very human. I'll go back next time I need to be in downtown Chicago. Eat at the Vermilion, a block away, while you're there!
- Pros: decor, comfort, location
Loved this hotel!

Just got back last week and this hotel was PERFECT! Small boutique hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are nicely decorated and turndown service every night was an added bonus. I loved the Aveda bath products too.
The best thing is they have a complimentary happy hour every day with top shelf alcohol, not the cheap stuff. Oh yes and they also have free internet ... :)
Next time I'm in Chi-town, I'll be staying at the Amalfi again.
- Pros: great staff, free happy hour, comfy beds
- Cons: no pool
The Amalfi ~ Good Business Class Hotel by Lori T. at InsiderPages

While meeting in Chicago on business, we decided to stay at the Amalfi due to a good Internet rate and having heard good things about it. Really, we left pretty satisfied.
This is not what I would classify as a luxury place, although it is decidedly above most chain hotels. The room, while not huge, was spacious enough for a business trip, and it was shiny-clean. The bed was very comfy, and there was plenty of hot water.
The staff was very helpful in recommending places to go and grabbing cabs. Check in and out was quick and very painless.
I do recommend this one for business trips, although you may want something a bit more upscale for romatic get-aways. They'll treat you right, in any case.
PROS: Good staff, slightly up-scale property
CONS: No extra pampering as far as room surprises after outings
