Yummy food but very PRICEY!

by WindyCityNewbie at Citysearch

The Goddess has excellent food, but it would be even better if it was half the price! I got an order to-go for dinner tonight for myself and it cost $16 for just Mac N Cheese (gourmet of course) and 2 Chicken tenders. The Mac N Cheese is amazing, but not worth $10. The better deal is the "make your own salad," but even that can end up costing an easy $12. In short, with today's economy, I really think this place needs to lower their prices.

  • Pros: Great for take out, creative pre-made selections
  • Cons: Expensive!

Sanitary issues-beware

by renescott at Citysearch

Ill cut to the chase-we went here for lunch recently and sat at the common table in side the store. Upon getting up from the table and finishing, I looked down and saw a dead rodent by my chair. Pretty disgusting. We have gone to this place a zillion times, we used to live in the neighborhood and liked it enough that even when we moved, would return for a quick dinner pick up or lunch. I have noticed the quality of the food declining, but to see a DEAD RODENT in the store is outlandish. We shared with one of the employees that it was there and she swept it up in the dust pan. I hope they are able to keep the doors open and avoid more mishaps becasue the food is creative enough with a broad range of sandwhich and take home options. I wish them the best but WILL NOT RETURN. Im sure if we knew what really went on in some of the kitchens of our favorite restaurants, we probabably would never eat out-but this incident was just to obvious to ignore.

  • Pros: convenient and large selections
  • Cons: sanitation, parking

Good food/bad value

by JacobBlair at Citysearch

Good fresh, healthy food, but not good portions for the price. Also, much better to eat there than get delivered. They don't even give you chips with your sandwich. Cheap bastards! Enticing menu selection though, I must admit.

  • Pros: Seemingly healthy
  • Cons: Too expensive for the portions

Yummy take-out spot!

by amy613 at Citysearch

I was on my way back to the train after shopping at Raizy, and the salesgirls there recommended that I stop at Goddess and Grocer to pick up lunch. I had a delicious roast beef sandwich that was huge but I had to finish every bite, it was so good!! There is a little table where you can sit down to eat, but it's mostly a take-out spot. I would definitely pick up something ready-made from their case to take home for dinner-everything looked so good! They were very busy so the service wasn't great, but it was a weekend so maybe the service is better when it's not so busy. I did buy a few things from their grocery section, and they had a lot of gourmet items to choose from. This would be a great place to pick up wine, cheese and a few easy things if you were having friends over!

  • Pros: Great food, cute store
  • Cons: Long wait for your order

High quality and great finds!

by austinite88 at Citysearch

Not only do the people working here serve with a smile, they prepare the best food! I have been in here on numerous occassions recently and have not once been disappointed. They have great deals on wine, the sandwiches are creative and yummy, and for such a small space, they are able to pack in great last minute finds.

  • Pros: excellent service, great prices, and wonderful food
  • Cons: can't seem to find one

goddess of what?

by cravenmore at Citysearch

I have enjoyed shopping this quant little deli many times over except for the bothersome, loud and sometimes very rude owner, who only seems to emerge from the back room to put down her VERY helpful staff or to butt into a conversation with some very droll story about australia. God save the queen but take the goddess back down under.... i was speaking with the VERY knowledgable staff about a type of bleu cheese and then found myself trapped in a story about allergies to just this type of cheese. I enjoy the people who work there when they have the chance talk about food without interruption. God save the Grocer too!

  • Pros: staff , great wines, good cheese
  • Cons: owner's lonliness, smelly diningroom, strollers everywhere

Bucktown bites never looked so stylish, thanks to this elegant gourmet grocer.

by Jennifer Olvera at Citysearch

In Short
Foodies stop by this cute, tiny spot for food on the run. Decked in fuchsia and pea-green walls, it's lined with picnic-perfect prepackaged hot sauces, cereals and chocolates. In the deli case, there's organic orange-and-beet salad, meats like peppered salami and breads fresh from Red Hen bakery. Design-your-own salads and sandwiches are one option, while house preparations like smoked brisket with barbecue sauce, grilled onions and cheddar on Kaiser showcase the kitchen's creativity.
