No Mauna Pua

by Aubry177

For being a Hawaiian restaurant, they are missing a key food. Mauna Pua. Otherwise, food is good.

Love the bbq chicken!

by byebyemissamericanpie

I go to this place pretty frequently - anytime I'm getting a craving for what I consider teriyaki bbq chicken (sorry, I'm not hawaiian so I can't say if it's authentic, but it's delicious, regardless!). I love their mini-bbq plate lunch but don't be fooled by the "mini" - the portions here are very generous. comes with the hawaiian staples of white rice and macaroni salad. i love their spam musubi as well. and they do have some veggie options (e.g. tofu, side of broccoli), as well as most kinds of meats and some fish in bbq form or otherwise. what's great is they cook your food to order, so the meat doesn't get dry under a heat lamp. takes a little bit longer, but definitely worth the wait. the bbq chicken is really tender and flavorful. ambience is nice if you want to sit and eat, but I usually order ahead and get takeaway..

Authentic, meat-heavy plate lunches transport diners to the Hawaiian islands at this casual Lincoln Park restaurant.

by Valerie Moloney

The Scene
Blond wood-paneled walls and canary tones open up this tiny counter-service-only eatery in Lincoln Park. Couples and singles wait for their orders amidst tropical reminders: vintage posters of hula girls and photos of lei-clad tourists and scenic vistas. Wooden tables divide the dining room, with additional bench seating lining the right perimeter. Order takers greet diners with breezy aloha spirit.

The Food
The traditional Hawaiian plate lunch--two scoops of white rice, a scoop of macaroni salad topped with a choice of chicken, beef, tofu or hamburger steak--grounds a protein- and seafood-centered menu. A sweet soy marinade is the secret behind a mix plate of barbecue beef, chicken and short ribs so moist and tender you'd think they'd been slow-grilled for hours. Tangy katsu sauce complements skinless, boneless chicken coated with Japanese bread crumbs. Spam comes in many forms: grilled, in an egg-noodle soup and in a sushi-like seaweed wrap with rice.
