Real Warmth

by LoopGirl at Citysearch

My friends and I LOVE this place! The food is always good, the service is very friendly, never stuffy, and the vibe just feels good. Great wines by the glass and the bottles are also very affordable. Everybody seems to like working here and it feels like they treat you as good friends instead of just patrons. Try the Pizzette al funghi (sp?) to start. The pasta is always good and fresh. I always ask for our waiter's reccomendation and it's always spot on! Don't ever change, Socca!

  • Pros: Good food, very friendly staff
  • Cons: None!!!!

Socca is a very nice looking place but the I had the risotto which was extremely bland and boring. The service wasn't the best either.

Mixed experiences

by minxie11 at Citysearch

My fiance and I have been to dinner there numerous times-we actually had our first date there. We have always had great service and wonderful food. The only complaint we have-and this is a big one-is when we tried to plan our reception for our wedding at Socca we met with the owner. After our initial meeting, the owner never got back to the 3 emails I sent him over a month, and when he FINALLY called me back he didn't even know who I was. If I can't trust him to know who I am (even after I prompted him) then I'm not even THINKING of having Socca participate in our wedding.

Its true that Socca has great food and service, but I would NOT recommend having any sort of event there-don't walk...RUN!

  • Pros: Good Food
  • Cons: Horrible Event planning

Lakeview's best kept secret

by coldie at Citysearch

Skip the wait and the sticker shock 3 doors down at Mia Franchesca and enjoy a great evening at Socca the next time you find yourself in Wrigleville. Imaginative fare that is done simply and well, ample portions, stellar service and a wine list that won't break the bank will make this your new favorite. You feel like you've been here before, but it isn't deja vu, it's just the way this place makes everyone feel like a regular.

The crowd at the bar is also very easy on the eyes!

  • Pros: service, value
  • Cons: a tad noisy on busy nights

Most Fabulous Italian Restaurant in the Midwest

by larry_lapine at Citysearch

While visiting my daughter who lives in Wrigleyville, she suggested Socca. After having eaten at many, many restaurants in Chicago over the last 25 years, this wasthe BEST Italian restaurant I have ever been too. Aside from tantastic and delicious food, the service was extraordinaire! Our waiter, Mike, made the evening. He was most helpful with recommendations, extremely attentative, and very personable. He made the even ing EXTRA special. I can't wait until I visit again and have hanother opportunity to dine there.

Best dinner spot in the city!

by vivso1001 at Citysearch

This place is great! I?ve been here a couple of times with my boyfriend and girl friends and we?ve had a really good experience every time. Their food is delicious (esp. the pommes frites and pizzettes!) and the staff is knowledgeable and attentive. It?s got a great atmosphere for a date or an intimate dinner, though a little loud at busier times. It?s not Cheesecake Factory, so don?t expect huge meals, but none of the entrees will leave you hungry. Overall, if you like good French/Italian food and a nice, cozy environment, I?d highly recommend it!

  • Pros: Delicious food, great service, hip crowd
  • Cons: None!

Buzzing atmosphere and satisfying French-Italian fare make this an appealing option for upscale-casual dining in Lakeview.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Two walls of windows and a roomy, wide-open layout let the Clark Street scene right into this rouge-colored dining room, where an eclectic Lakeview crowd--from toddlers with parents to gay and straight dates--noshes on pizza, pasta and steak frites. Friendly service and butcher paper-covered tables add to the casual come-as-you-are vibe.

The Food
There's nothing too fancy on the French-Italian menu--you'll see old favorites like onion soup, mussels marinara and lyonnaise salad. But the kitchen wins fans with hearty flavors and simple, unfussy execution. Standout starters include sharing-size pizzettes with toppings like baby spinach, roasted garlic and Asiago cheese. Tagliatelle with clams, mussels, shrimp and jumbo scallops in spicy tomato sauce is a pleasant pasta, but grilled pork chops are the star among entrees--tender, smoky and served with a toothsome ragu of white beans and braised greens. Croissant bread pudding with roasted bananas makes for a sinful, scrumptious finish.

Love this place!

by slippy_22 at Citysearch

I went with some girlfriend's for a Friday night dinner. We made reservations for 8pm. We first had a drink at the bar - they have fabulous specialty martinis. We were seated promptly. Our server was wonderful. He was kind, funny and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious!! The salmon was perfect. We also split two fabulous deserts. The bill was reasonable for all that we consumed. Also, the atmosphere is great. I loved sitting by the large windows. I will definitely be going back soon!!!

  • Pros: Reasonably priced, Great service, Great ambience
