I have been to a few places in town to get a haircut and nothing comes close to the cut that Matt Martin of Guise provides. He has a passion for cutting only men's hair and does it exceptionally well. I most enjoy the fact that I can just sit back in the chair have a cold beer and allow him to cut my hair how he feels it should be done. So if you’re looking for a great men's hair cut swing over to Guise and visit Matt.

I spent 2 years in the city bouncing from place to place in order to find someone who could give me a decent haircut. Finally, I found it at Guise, and their stylist Kelly. In addition to Kelly, the rest of the staff that I've encountered in my several visits have been friendly and informal without any pretension. Several other reviewers have mentioned that the staff was rude or that they weren't offered a drink - I can honestly say that in 10+ trips there, I've yet to experience either. I'd strongly reccomend Guise to any other guy that has had a hard time finding a decent haircut.

Pros: great haircuts

I really can't say enough great things about Guise. The service is top-notch, the staff is friendly without being "salon-pretentious," and while the clothes are boutique-priced, they're worth every penny if you're even very slightly label-conscious.

Don't waste your time with other places! Kelly is the best stylist I've ever used! Everyone is friendly and the ambiance is first-rate.

Pros: Everything except parking

Cons: Parking

I went here with my boyfriend and he saw Edward. He did a fantastic job! My boyfriend brought a picture and he was honest about what was possible and really worked with him for a long time. Its almost better when you show a stylist a picture and they give honest advice. Instead of saying "Oh sure I can do that" and they totally can't. But so yeah, I think he is really talented and he's going back for sure. I wish they did women's cuts as well!

Pros: Great Service, Nice/Well Educated Staff

Cons: none

I recently made my first visit to Guise. I was very excited as I had read a lot of good things about it. I must say I was very disappointed!!! I walked in the door and no one said Hi or even a simple smile. The clothes were ok but lets just say a t-shirt that was on sale was about $50 or higher. So you should expect high prices for all of their items. Overall nothing you wont already find at Bloomingdales, or Saks. I thought they offered everyone a drink or even a beer. None were offered. I can say that neither I or any other guys in the place were drinking. Everyone sat in the back bar area with an awkward silence. You would think they would be drinking or something. Later the Cashier told me that they sometimes bring them out but mainly keep the beers in the back room. Not where they should be, I was thinking. The haircut, first this dude named Louis did it. Not a friendly or talkative fellow. I was a bit nervous because for one the chairs are about 8 feet away from the mirror and it doesnt allow you to see much. these should be around 2 ft away. They only have one chair for shampooing and it is not the cleanest looking!! Go into their bathroom and its even more disgusting. My haircut was ok, but for $35 plus tip, I would rather go to a real salon. Most haircuts will be $45 plus tip. worst part was, they tried to overcharge me. Overall I was not impressed, the place looks like a small mens clothing store with some chairs squeezed in for haircuts. I think the only thing Guise had that was good was PR. I would not return

Pros: Location

Cons: Unfriendly, Pricey Items, Hair salon set up

Its really nice to see an owner that takes a lot of pride in his business, and shows in every aspect of Guise. The first thing I noticed is the above and beyond customer service. I called to change my appointment to a bit earlier. Unfortunately the stylist was completely booked. Brad remembered to call me back as soon as there was a cancellation. Rachael took a lot of time and care cutting my hair. She obviously takes a lot of pride in her work. If asked, she is not shy about lending her expertise to guys who really dont know what to do with their hair. I was more than satisfied with my hair cut. Since I got 25% off for getting my haircut before three, I consider this place a bargain. Even without the discount, its worth spending a few extra bucks to for service and better looking hair cut. I dont think anyone but competing hair salons will write a negative review of this place. I will go back again.

Pros: Great service and stylists, HDTV, beverages

Cons: None

I first visited the website, (top-notch, by the way) looking for a salon that geared to guys, but didn't write you off with clippers. Because of this, I had expected to pay more then Supercuts and saw that I wouldn't pay more then $45. I've been going there for a while, and Brad (the owner) has gone above and beyond for his clients. One time I came in without an appointment, and had to take a different stylist (she's no longer employed there anymore) and didn't exactly get the haircut I had hoped for. Brad noticed this and talked with me, and compt' me for my next visit. In addition to helping clients, he's a big supporter of local chicago artists and musicians. Be sure to ask him or Rachel (she's an awesome stylist), who to check out this week. Now this maybe a Salon/boutique, but it's definately geared towards guys. (hense the name) Each chair has their own personal flatscreen t.v., and your stylist is more then happy to serve a cold beer while you get cut. Or....you can sip your suds while you wait in the lounge and trade quips with Brad, if he's not too busy. As far as clothes, I'm not sure of what kind of selection another reviewer was writing of, but clearly the guy has been fortunate not to be dragged shopping with his girlfriend to her boutiques, because the selection and price is comparable to others. If you happen to have trouble deciding what to choose, the staff is always happy to help you out, or even tell you what sales are coming soon! But in reponse to what the same reviewer said, I have to write that Brad is introducing some more moderately price merchandise in addition to his current lines. If you are looking to change from quick clipper hustle of most low-cost "salons" i.e. Cost cutters, Supercuts, then take a peek into Guise.

Pros: Great customer service, just don't be afraid to ask!!!

Cons: Parking can be scarce sometimes

My husband first went here last summer and I was very nervous. He's not good at describing what hairstyle he wants and usually ends up with something too trendy or too crewcut-ish. Rachel did an unbelivable job- she paid attention to what he looked like before he came in (conservative, not too trendy) and made sure his hair looked great for work or weekends. I went with him on his next trip and couldn't have felt more welcome. Great staff, love the selection of clothes. I feel totally confident that any guy will walk out looking great- not a bad idea for a pre-date cleanup.

Pros: Friendly staff, Great clothes

Cons: Somewhat expensive
