PICKPOCKETS HERE - BEWARE!
by bomiekim at Citysearch
I suggest that you do NOT go here because there are pickpockets, and the employees KNOW there are pickpockets, but do not prevent them from coming in here. If you do go here, make sure you do not leave your purse unattended. I caught one in the act on Friday night, July 31. She will be an African American female who is alone, pretending to be drinking, and is clearly not in the demographic of people who go there.
Ehh...

They have some great weeknight deals on food and drinks--notably the HUGE dollar burgers on Mondays! Yum :)
However, the staff has been either inattentive or forgetful every time I've been there. (At my last visit, our waitress forgot to put my order in...)
Also, for what it's worth, the bathroom is falling apart. The heavy oak stall-door literally fell right off the hinge and clobbered me when I tried to open it!
In sum, I won't be returning, but I don't regret the dollar burgers.
- Pros: dollar burgers!
- Cons: staff, building
A great place to chill or get crazy
by robxbrb at Citysearch
I had never even heard of this bar until my friend's sister decided to celebrate her birthday there. There were intimate booths where people could dine, and an open bar area upstairs. The crowd was young and "J. Crew" looking. I'm not sure how much drinks cost because there was a man at the bar who bought my friends and I drinks all night... we didn't even speak to him, he just pointed at us from across the bar. I had so much fun at this bar socializing and dancing. Everyone was friendly and chill and the DJ spinned great music. My only complaint is that he repeated some songs. All in all it was a great time.
- Pros: Ambiance
asinine attempts to draw people in...
by mhillgoth at Citysearch
The asinine door guy told me and my friends they were at capacity (at 10 PM) and we could only go inside as the appropriate number left. We'd have gladly left, except half our party was already inside. The door guy knew this and used it to his advantage to keep us in line for a half hour. A line for Kerryman?? Please. The place was incredibly empty once we got inside, and the music beyond lame. And conveniently, the one in-one out bs was apparently out the window a few, as we saw people coming in by the dozens. I still can't believe the pompous door guy. With all the other great places in the neighborhood, you REALLY think there's a real need for a line at Kerryman? Never again.
- Pros: roomy inside, since it's rather empty
- Cons: pompous door-guy, music
Smart and clean Irish pub
by AMSnyder at Citysearch
I went to The Kerryman on the suggestion of an old college friend that lives in Chicago. We arrived around 9pm, so getting a stool at the bar wasn't an issue. Overall solid bar with good service. A little too clean of an Irish bar for me though.
Lucky to have Found this Place
by songus at Citysearch
On a recent trip to Chicago we were walking around one afternoon not far from the hotel and we ran into Kerryman. Lucky we did, as this place is fantastic. It was mid afternoon and only about a quarter full down stairs. The bar tender was very pleasant and answered all our touristy question. As more and more staff showed up for the dinner shift they all said hello as they came in or passed by. We stayed and had dinner, WOW! It was awsome. The macaroniand cheese was the best thing I had while in Chicago, over the top good. After dinner we decided to walk around and see what else was in the area. After going to a few other places we found ourselve back at Kerryman. the staff greated us agina and welcomed us back. Will definately return on the next trip to Chicago and I can't wait foor more Kerryman Mac & Cheese.
- Pros: Staff, Food, Atmosphere
- Cons: Not in the City I live in :(
EXCELLENT BAR/SERVICE
by drumreemeath at Citysearch
I was in there last Saturday in the downstairs bar 02/04/06 and I have to say the service was just excellent! I was actually treated like ROYALTY! The bartender was Irish and couldnt have done enough for me. Very friendly and very well groomed! I had the Cheescake and OH MY GOD never tasted anything like it! Who ever the chef is in there he knows his stuff! Some of these people that write nasty reviews on this "Classy Irish Bar" are really having a bad day as I have no fault with this place!
Love it and am going back next week with friends.
- Pros: excellent staff, ambience, classy
- Cons: no parking, none, none
Downtown Irish bar contradicts the folksy stereotypes of its brethren without sacrificing a menu of classic pub grub.

In Short
Patrons in search of Irish bric-a-brac and a fiddle-driven soundtrack won't find either that at this River North tap and grill. Copper light fixtures and multiple levels of dining and boozing go against the predictable expectation of an Irish bar. The food, however, rings familiar notes, from creamy three-cheese macaroni flavored with parmesan, Dubliner and smoked gouda versions to a cheesburger crowned with Irish bacon. After the lunch crowds have gone home, pretty gals and guys in striped shirts overtake the back bar, making it a full-fledged dance club that vibrates to the likes of DJ Kool and DMX.
Worst irish pub I've ever been to
by shamrockcb at Citysearch
I was extremely disappointed in this new irish pub. Not only is the atmosphere NOT authentic, the staff is so snobby and unresponsive that it is not worth the money. I was in Ireland 4 months ago and the service was never quite like this. I'm assuming the wait staff is stuffy to appeal to a trendy clientele. Will never go back again.
PS, we sat at the bar on a Thurs evening and it took several minutes for the bartender to even look at us as he was chatting with other staff. Once we were served, he never even asked if we wanted another beverage. We were dressed nice too, what's the deal?
- Pros: Nice wood paneling, Decorative, Guinness
- Cons: Bad service, No personality, Not irish at all
I've had better service at White Castle!!!!
