I liked my haircut
by queenieyip
I had Chris to cut my hair. He was terrific. And you can tell he's very skilled. I asked him a bunch of questions and he has many good suggestions. Compared to other salons, the price is very reasonable as well.
- Pros: on time, clean, skilled stylist
Terrible Service
by XDRE
I have been visiting Asha in the Gold Coast for several years and their customer service has gotten progressively worse. On multiple occassions they booked me for the wrong service with too much processing time so I end up waiting for 45 minutes between a cut and a color. The last time I was in the salon they encouraged me to sign up for their online appointment system, which I readily agreed to. This morning I put in a request for a style Sat morning with my top 3 time preferences. They called me with a message to confirm, asking that I call them likewise to confirm. Just called now (a few hours later) and it turns out they gave away my appointment. All that is left is the time slot after the last one I can make. Apparently they didn't know if I wanted the appointment - Why do they think I sent them the email? I usually get a good cut and ok color, but this place just isn't worth it.
Amazing!!

I went to Asha for a day of beauty. I have been to Aveda salons before, so the smell when I first walked in was very comforting! I was greeted by a friendly staff who walked me back to the spa and placed a warm neck cusion on me. I then had a massage with Amy, which was extremely relaxing. (She is a VERY nice girl) After my massage was done Amy was waiting for me with a glass of water. I changed and was then told Kerri was ready to do my color for me. She made me look 10 years younger just by changing my hair color. I then had a cut with Gregory. I can not even explain how happy I am with my cut!!! I have had so many people come up to me and tell me how much they love my hair. I tell every one of them that they should go to Asha!
I will be going back to Asha as long as I live in Chicago!!!!
- Pros: They are opening a new salon in the suburbs!!
- Cons: Nothing!!
Magic Hands

David gave me an excellent massage. He knows just how much pressure to use and where to use it. We had a consultation at the beginning of my appointment and then I drifted away. There was no talking during my massage I was able to relax and unwind from my daily routine. Truly an excellent experience. I will be return.
- Pros: Excellent Massage
My most favorite escape
by JackieDInTheCity
ASHA has fabulous facials and massages to die for. I literally feel like a GAIN a year every time I leave ASHA. THANKS THANKS to everyone who works so hard to make me and my friends feel beautiful and rejuvenated!
- Pros: The staff, the facials, the massages, the products (AVEDA baby!)
- Cons: None - as it should be for a great spa day!
Awful Awful Perm Job
by miloublanc
I used to have wavy hair. After showering, it would actually be more curly and I wanted it to always be curly. So I went to Asha Salon in Chicago's Gold Coast. I paid over $200 and after the first time my hair was completly straight and so dry. When I got home the girl who did my hair called me and asked me to wash it and to come back in two days. She did my hair again. Half way through rolling my hair, she realized that they didn't have enough rollers and had to send a phone receptionist to buy some from a few blocks away, while I sat with chemicals on my hair, waiting.
I paid her a big tip again and my hair is now permanently straight. Not only she didn't perm my hair right to get it curly, but also, my hair has lost all it's life, and original waves. I have been waiting for two years for my hair to get it's original curls back and .... I went back to the salon for a refund after a week and even took a picture of myself with how my hair used to look like before, and they gave me the run around, made me wait for half an hour and then offered me a spa session for $50 which I refused to take, finally they told me that the girl had spent time and energy and didn't deserve to not get paid. I explained to them that I had tiped her $100 during the two sessions and got a refund of $50 back.
To top it all, I had to spend more to get my burned and dried hair threated. She had used so much chemicals in my hair that my dark brown hair had turned a wierd shade of blond and it took me a long time and lots of coloring to not look like I have had my hair bleached!!! I will never get my beautiful hair back, but I guess I learned my lesson!!!
Good luck to all of you.
Stay Away!

Worst haircut of my life by Chris. I went in just wanting a trim, my hair had just a few layers. Next thing I know is he's taking 4 inches off and there are layers all the to the top of my ears. It looks horrible and only looks halfway decent if I spend an hour on it every day. Do not go here!
average spa, but better salon

i love aveda concept spas, but i have to say that i was a little disappointed with this one. although i normally like ashas (i've been to all 3 for hair, manis, pedis, facials, and massages), perhaps they're missing (or maybe i am) the whole point of the spa experience.
Asha is more of a salon - and they do salon services well. But I think they need to improve the spa experience overall. While the schaumburg location is well-appointed for spa services and seems to be closer to providing the spa concept (and more quiet), the staff is a bit rough around the edges when it comes to creating the serene spa experience... again, they (at all 3 locations) act like a salon staff instead of a spa staff ... which has a big difference in a customer's experience.
For examples, the massage therapists I've seen there (I've seen a total of 5 at 2 locations) were talented but a bit too chatty ... good for a salon experience, not so much for a spa experience. The facialist was too rushed - it felt like they were throwing on the products and then taking them off too soon and in a rapid-fire kind of a process (which is a shame since I love aveda skin care). The manicures and pedicures were good, but again, for a salon, not a spa. Overall, the value for your dollar is good and the services are solid, but if you want the "true spa experience", go elsewhere.
- Pros: good salon
- Cons: not much a spa experience
A sister location of the serene spa and salon makes it way to the Gold Coast.
by Valerie Moloney
In Short
A well-stocked shop packed with Aveda products welcomes customers at this Gold Coast spa and salon known for its "wet treatments" that exfoliate and moisten skin with natural salts, scrubs and sugars. Stone walls, recessed lighting and serene tones of olive and brown evoke a serene, Zen-like feeling for customers receiving facials, massage and more. An upstairs salon is stark and minimalist in a simple palette of white, silver and chocolate.
