My girlfriend and I recently went to this bar-restaurant when we had an hour to pass before our movie started at the adjoining AMC theater. We were well-dressed and in a good mood on a holiday at around 7:00 p.m.. The establishment's young, African-American hostess asked us whether we were there for dinner and we said no, as we were there for drinks and hors d'oeuvres. She then said, "Oh, you can sit in the bar." The bar is huge with both tables and booths that seat roughly eight people. In this entire establishment, there was only one other couple. We chose a table for four since there were no tables for two. The hostess then came back and said that we had to sit at the bar or in the other room if we were not going to eat dinner. We were a bit put-off by this as my date and I had no desire to "belly-up to the bar" while we had our appetizers and drinks. Therefore, the two of us walked to the other room but found that the bartender was all alone, in another gigantic room, watching TV (above the bar). There were no waitresses to serve the tables in that section. When we went back to tell the hostess this, she was extremely rude. We then told her that we would go somewhere else and that we had no intention of returning -- ever. Stay away from this place -- the staff is rude and it seems as though it's doing horribly!

Simply put I used to love going to this place until they added a "dress code." I was there onetime, saw the dress code and walked up to the hostess who happened to be african american. I told her that I would not be staying and that the reason was because i found the dress code to be ra**st. She leaned in and said thatnk you very much, and tat she agreed with me. Here are a few of the things that they have listed: chain jewelry, no construction boots, not athletic attire. Please join me in boycotting the place and getting them to get rid of the dress code.

Pros: Location

Cons: There attitudes towards race.

Lucky Strike. The name alone suggests that this is a bowling alley first and foremost. It was not named to be a bar, or a pool hall, but a bowling alley. As such, I would have expected the expensive price to reflect this in the quality of bowling. I was wrong. First, the person at the counter could not understand when I said I had my own bowling shoes. He was also amused that I had my own bowling ball. Thats fine, a upscale bowling alley marketed at trendy folks, I can understand how its not common to see someone with his own gear. The lanes were horrible. Dry, barely any oil on them, I could not get my ball to track where I wanted and usually get it to track. If you ever bowled at UIC, the you know what I am talking about. No oil tracks on the ball, and the slightest amount of hook causes the ball to over-react. Maybe I am spoiled with cheaper, more run down places that actually take good care of the lanes. Maybe I expected too much out of bowling prices that are easily 2 or 3 times as expensive. The least they could do is oil the lanes. The bowling here is just an attraction. Don't expect to play a real game. However the food is decent. But... good food and good bowling don't mix. I think even trendy people who are half competant at bowling would appreciate a less upscale place that has a premium bowling experience. You goto a bowling alley to bowl, and you goto a restaurant to eat. Lucky strike is a restaurant/bar, not a bowling alley.

If you are looking for a place to bowl, stay away from Lucky Strike! Their staff is rude and unpleasant to deal with. They are also very inconsistent with their policies. This is one customer who will not be returning.

Pros: N/A

Cons: Service

If you want to be insulted, have awful service and have your bowling interupted by failing equipment- then go to Lucky Strike...... but be warned- don't complain that you just spent $75 on bowling (yes only bowling, not food) and the failing equipment, because the manager will think you are interupting him doing nothing!! And what ever you do, don't ask for him to compensate your bowling game that was not finished, interupted due to the equipment not working, because he will not do ANYTHING for you- won't even give you a free game or buy you a coke- If you want to waste your money- go to Lucky Strike. If you want to be insulted- go to Lucky Strike, if you want to feel like the establishment you are at doesn't care if you are there or not- then go to Lucky Strike.

Pros: none

Cons: Worst Restaruent Management ever!!!

Recently I attended Lucky Strike Lanes for a work party. I didn't even know this place was there! I have gone back a few times now with other coworkers and friends and it's just a great place to relax. The flank steak sandwich and turkey burger are the best on the menu. The menu prices are routine but the bowling prices are a little costly. The service is layed back and chill so if you’re willing to put out some money and have a small party with a personal server it's well worth it. Plus the staff is totally good looking!!!

My girlfriend on a I visited. We love the regulation size tables, but are 99% sure our credit card numbers were stolen here and used in Hawaii and Mexico. I will recant this entry if I hear that some employee has been arrested but so far management is indifferent. We have not lost any money because we were contacted by our credit card companies. We visited on 3 seperate Saturday afternoons. Please be careful and do not leave your card to open up a tab. Pool and food is fun. Even before this fiasco, service was mediocre at best.

Pros: Lots of regulation size pool tables that are real without needing coins.

Cons: Credit Card Numbers Stolen

$20 bucks for a few games of pool?! The drinks were expensive too..and the nachos were nast. Homeboy had run off with my boyfriends credit card, we had been really to bounce but were waiting on him. We were going to go to the movies but i sugged going in for a couple of games of pool so that we could actually talk and laugh insted of sitting in a dark theater in scilence. I'm def. glad we oppted for Lucky Strike over the movies.

Pros: Way more fun of a date than the movies!

Cons: My boyfriend looked nice but had to take his hat off-come on! The hat was Prada :)

Lucky Stikes is a combination sports bar, bowling alley, and pool hall. It comes across as very cool and is pretty hip and swanky. Couches and tables are cozy and romantic, and bowling alley itself is chic. Service is below average; waiting time for beverages and food is very long. The food and the beverages itself were good. The prices for the services (bowling and pool) are steep. The place would get a much better review if the service was better and not as pretentious. The wait staff should lower their dresses a little bit and lay off on the attitude somewhat.

Pros: Good food; great atmosphere.

Cons: Service poor; expensive to play games.

River North bowling alley makes an upscale impression with small-plates menu and wine bar.  See the full editorial review.
