Menu Prices Went Way Up and Portions Got Smaller
by Rick26
A group of friends went today for a Cubs game. The menu used to have everything for $5, great concept. Now they have changes to the typical bar menu where entrees are as high as $19. On top of that the portions have gotten considerably smaller. Had the chicken burrito and a couple of chips for $6.50 ... finished it in three bites. The beer was also priced fairly high the had a special 22 ounce beer special for $6 ... I wouldn't call that a great price. These days the TVs in the bars are usually in HD for sports viewing but somehow they don't have it which is suprising.
On the positive, the service was very good and the waitress was very helpful.

You can't find a better place on Southport to watch a game. Furthermore, their food (meatball sub, burger, fries, french dip, spinach artichoke dip, etc.) is definitely worth $5, the specials are REALLY enticing, and nothing beats patio dining on Southport. While this isn't the most amazing bar I've ever been to, it's definitely worth the visit ESPECIALLY if you're looking to watch a game.
- Pros: Value, Service, Location
Good drink specials and nice location
by chinene
My friend and I have been here several times for its cheap drinks and specials as well as the $5 menu. The food is okay but you're not going to get gourmet for $5!! And the drinks are a little weak, but you can also get some tequila and other liquor shots for $5 which is a good deal. Definitely a good place for a lot of people not trying to spend their whole checks on a good time. Also, its on Southport, so it was really nice sitting on the patio doing a little people watching.
- Cons: Parking can be a little rough.
Southport sports bar one-ups Wrigleyville competitors with amazingly cheap eats and an appliance store full of televisions.

In Short
The concept is simple: a) All food items and most drinks cost $5 or under, and b) TVs are everywhere, ranging from booth-side 20-inch monitors to monster 110-inch screens. The expansive open room's tall walls and unobstructed sight lines mean no neck craning. Crowds of predominantly male sports fans huddle around high-top tables and nosh, glued to the action, while couples tend to opt for booths to enjoy a wall-mounted private viewing.
Are you kidding me?

We remembered it as Strega Nona and the changes are great! Love the personal televisions in the booths as well as the $5.00 concept! If you have kids bring along their gameboys and plug them into the televisions.
In truth we really wen't expecting much for $5.00 but I have to tell you that the burrito and chips filled me plenty! 1/2 a chicken for $5.00? And Tater Tots to boot!
The place is great and for the other reviewer with the bad service? Bummer for you! But I guess it's no surprise when you are paying $5.00 for dinner and you want free refills on soda. Give me a break! Burger King is around the corner on Irving Park. And by the way - they don't give you free refills either unless you're crude enough to steal it.
- Pros: Food, Drinks, Televisions
Mediocre at best
by r_hopson
The food was terrible. $5 for crappy food! And, they charged us for every Coke refill. come on, it's fountain soda! We were mostly ignored by a very rude and unprofessional waitress. There are so many other choices on Southport, skip this one.
