Fatal flaw

Calimari---way too bready and heavy, sauce just garlic mayo

Mushroom Purse---YUM! beaugiful

Salmon dish--- salmon fresh and juicy, sag paneer gorgeous, lentil cake, cardboard

Scallops---Unfresh, inedible. I had to spit it out. Served on creamy hash browns laced with tough strings of uncooked leek.

They were out of chicken tikka, the dish I came in to try. They were also out of every single dessert! On a saturday night at 5pm!

Why I will never go back again----the waitress never returned untill about 15 minutes after dropping off the entrees. When we told her the scallops were unfresh She got flustered and said she'd check wtih the kitchen. No one apologized, no manager came to the table, we were not offered a substitution, a dessert to make up for it nor was there a price adjustment on the bill. This tells me they don't care what the customers think and don't even care if we get sick from seafood that has turned. If I were the owner, I would NEVER want someone to be served off-seafood, then be forced to pay for it!

Horrible and Rude Service

The staff here is rude and racist. Eat here if you support this behavior, but if you don't, find someplace else to eat. There are plenty of good restaurants in Chicago.

This restaurant doesn’t deserve one star. My husband and I went to eat here for dinner (at 6 p.m.). When we walked in and said we didn’t have reservations, we were immediately told "you're going to have a long wait" in a rude and ugly tone. When we questioned this because there were only two people eating, the staff girl (short and fat with glasses) had us wait about 8 minutes and then told us she couldn't seat us because they had around 6 reservations at 6:30 and more coming in at 7 pm. Even with this schedule, they had tables available. When I asked her for her name, she told me "I'm through with you, goodbye! We eat out often and I have NEVER, I mean ever, encountered service this rude. I was so shocked by her rude tone, I asked my husband to go back because I saw the owner. We told him about her rude behavior and while we were talking to him, she continued to make comments like: "maybe I can seat them "in the back", but they'll have to leave in 30 minutes". The owner said he'd talk to her, but didn't want to embarrass his staff in front of people. Fine, but is it okay to be rude to potential customers? Never!

I will never eat here and believe we were treated poorly because we're black. I say this not only because of the rude words, but the tone in which they were spewing from her mouth. So it's okay to seat us "in the back". The staff here is rude and racist. Eat here if you support this behavior, but if you don't, find someplace else to eat. There are plenty of good restaurants in Chicago.

great for dinner, even better for brunch!

This place is fantastic. We've been going regularly since moving into the neighborhood a couple of years ago, and i am always happy with the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Used to go mostly for dinner (samosa appetizer!! lamb burger!!!), but have been going in for weekend brunch, and we think this is where it's really at. The Daal & Eggs dish is a perfect savory breakfast; satisfying and flavorful, but not too heavy, a sort of perfect comfort food without the greasy food hangover. Also recommended are the pancakes with chai syrup and a wonderful strawberry compote. Amazing. More vegetarian options available for breakfast/brunch than dinner.

The crowd is mixed; all sorts of people, some very local, some not. It's been a lot busier the last few times I've been in, so this bodes well for Treat; I guess the word is out!

Delicious and Unique Cuisine

Treat's food is absolutely delicious - the unique combinations of cuisine types come together well for a perfect meal. A small restaurant in a sketchy neighborhood - definitely worth the trip. Try the calamari appetizer - the dipping sauce is amazing. The curried gnocci and chicken tikka masala are scrumptious also.

• Pros: The food is unique and delicious - won't find anything else like it.
• Cons: The location is a bit sketchy, but doesn't stop me from going there.

Wonderful food

Everything I tasted at Treat was excellent. We had a big group, so I was able to taste a lot of food. They have something for everyone on the menu. It's a great value, and has a very mellow atmoshpere. After one trip, it's one of my favorites places to eat in town. Although a bit out of the way from where I live, I'll be back often.

A diverse menu outweighs the cramped quarters of this B.Y.O.B. destination in Humbolt Park.

The Scene
A yellow and blue striped facade is an effective beacon for young foodies and curious locals in an otherwise quiet neighborhood. Inside, the tight but functional space is all muted yellows and blond wood. To the right is a dry bar, to the left tables and chairs for 20, and straight back, a buzzing exposed kitchen. A postage stamp of a stage barely contains jazz artists that perform some nights.

The Food
Global would be one way of describing the choices here; restless another, with most dishes sharing little more than menu space. Starters jump continents: Well-seasoned calamari benefit from harrissa mayo, but are overshadowed by flaky, pea and potato-stuffed samosas, crisp from flash-frying. A satisfying caprese sandwich is perfect for lunch with a side of frites. Entrees globetrot too; dahl (lentil stew) is aromatic and earthy, and pan-roasted salmon with tarragon, teardrop tomatoes and cucumber yogurt sings with bright Mediterranean flavors.

Unexpected Gem

It's hard to know what to expect from Treat, which at first glance appears to be a trendy new restaurant staking out pioneer territory in Humboldt Park. From the outside it looks hip, from the inside it looks like someone took a mediocre interior and did wonders with it on a budget. As it turns out, none if that matters, because the food is fabulous. The dal was light, plesant, and uncomplicated. The plum pastry, on the other hand, was sublime. I think it actually brought up my heart rate. If you're from the area, it's especially fulfilling to be able to get such good food, so reasonably priced, right here. It was full on a Wednesday night, so it seems the word is out.

• Pros: Food, Service, and Price.
• Cons: The atmosphere is good, and only seems slightly shabby around the edges (the drop tile ceiling is probably the least aesthetically pleasing element) because the food is so good in comparison.

Needs A.C. and better service

But the food is worth checking out. The salmon and the steak are both delicious, as well as the samosas and mushroom appetizers. Great food, great deal. The cabbage rolls, however, are to be skipped. Imagine a side of rice wrapped in uncooked cabbage. It would have been a rip-off for 59 cents. Kindly described, the flavor is "subtle". Unreal at $14.99.

Usually the specials are where the cooks can shine. Here, they stumble, which is a shame, because the menu items are great, the prices wonderful. Worth a visit for sure.

Great food, nice decor

Treat's decor is really nice, but the real treat is the food. I was amazed by my entree--pounded flank steak rolled with asparagus, goat cheese and served with fantasic mashed potatoes and a terrific wine reduction sauce. If you bring a bottle of wine, this place delivers up great tasting food at a reasonable price. The curried ganache cake was also fantasic! Wonderful blending of flavors, gutsy, but really good.

I would encourage those who live in the neighborhood and beyond to give treat a try and let their taste buds bring them back.
