Great cut, clean space, professional staff

I got a cut from Shirley. She was very experienced and knew what she was doing with minimal guidance. I got compliments for my hair after the cut. The management was also professional as well. I was warmly greeted and offered beverages and coat check. My appointment as on time. I would give this place a 5 if the price is a lil lower. $47 for a quick cut for a guy seems a bit steep. Also the hairstylist did not seem to like to talk much, which could be a turn off for some people.

• Pros: great cut, professional staff, clean and sleek hair studio
• Cons: a bit on the expensive side, hairstylists could use an hour of communications training

Amazing service and incredibly talented staff.

I recently decided to cut my hair drastically, about 8 inches off. I read several reviews on Salon U and chose to give it a try. It was sort of difficult to find the entrance because of some confusing scaffolding near by(though Im sure thats only temporary). I called the number of the salon and the employee on the phone said, "I will be right out to get you." Sure enough a few seconds later a woman walked out to me and showed me in. I told her I did not have an appointment and she assured me I would be seen by a stylist today. While I waited I was offered a complmentary beverage of either wine, champagne or beer. They do offer a latte as well. I was shown to a raised waiting area that was very cozy and resembled a modern living room. The surrounding colors of greens and browns are very relaxing. Several stylist spoke to me about my hair and my drastic cut, everyone was very involved. The young woman who did my hair is named Shirely. Not only did she talk about my hair with me she also helped me with the donation of my cut off hair, which the salon was happy to take care of for me. Shirely talked to me through out the whole proccess and was very positive about the cut. Salon U is a bit pricey but deffinately worth it. Shirely was not just a stylist while she cut my hair, she was an artist; very into what she was doing and very confident. The outcome was the best haircut I have ever recieved. I was warmly welcomed and happily invited back; without the pressure to buy salon products. I will be a regular client of Salon U because of the feel of the salon, the spunky employees and overall wonderful experience.

• Pros: Wonderful, talented stylists and a beautiful, modern atmophere.
• Cons: Side street parking is permit only, can't tip on a cedit/debit card.

Great salon experience!

I just moved to the Lakeview area after living in Atlanta for three years and needed a new stylist. Luckily for me, I found Dalia at Salon U. She did a fantastic job giving me the best cut I've had in years. She really listened when I asked her not to cut too much length off and to just give me a better "style."

I would highly recommend Dalia and Salon U as a whole-- no sales pressure and super friendly staff. The complimentary wine and beer was a nice touch too!

• Pros: Amaingly friendly and professional staff, complimentary drinks, attentive stylist
• Cons: Parking can be scarce on the weekends

The Best

I just moved to Chicago and very luckily discovered this salon during the Taste of Lincoln. I'm incredibly picky about my hair and honestly probably haven't walked out of a salon entirely happy with it since losing my hair stylist 3 years ago.... until today! Dhanna was amazing; she took the time to figure out exactly what I wanted and was beyond accomodating. She was also incredibly friendly (which seems to be par for the course there); by the time I left, I felt as if I'd just spent time with an old friend. The salon is a year old so it's entirely up-to-date in its accomodations (video I-Pods to watch as your color processes, super comfortable rinse sinks, wine, champagne, beer, coffee, juice, soda, cucumber water, etc.), and the staff is composed of people who clearly knew they could help start a new salon because their clientelle would follow them. All this stuff is just icing on the cake - the most important thing is that I truly love my hair!

• Pros: Friendly, fun, skilled staff; Great hair!
• Cons: A tad pricey

LUCY ROCKS @ SALON U

I was looking for a new stylist since my old one moved to Europe. Upon arriving at the Salon, I was greeted with a beverage and waited for Lucy to finish up one of her clients. I have seen the work of Lucy on friends of mine who have clients for years. I've been told by many that Lucy is the real deal when it comes to creativity. I was amazed at Lucy's artistic ability to create a new look for myself. I left there extremely happy with the overall experience at Salon U......LUCY.......YOU ROCK GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• Pros: It can be a bit pricy
• Cons: Parking is a little crazy in the area

Excellent Service, Great cut

I found Duschan at Salon U by asking a coworker's wife where she goes since her hair was fabulous. I am incredibly picky when it comes to by haircut. I've been to Duschan for over a year and plan on continuing. He gives such a quality cut that is low maintenance and grows out well. In the past, I've looked fabulous leaving the salon but couldn't recreate the look. At Salon U, I feel like a million dollars leaving and again when I do it myself the next morning.

The service is impeccable. They are friendlier and more attentive than any salon I've ever been to. With magazines, video ipods, champagne, wine, lattes, cucumber adorned water, and great conversation - you'll have a fantastic time.

Very comfortable and excellent service

I love going to Salon U. You will not get better service anywhere else. Right when you walk in the door they shower you with attention but are not pushy. I would recommend any Chicagoan to go to Joel for a haircut. Joel knows what he is doing. He makes you feel comfortable, gives great tips and above all has fun with you!

Great salon and great customer service

I moved to Chicago three years ago, and it took me nearly two and a half years to find a stylist that I trust. Joel at Salon U is brilliant. He does beautiful things with my hair and isn't afraid to advise against hair mistakes. He's also not the pushy salesman type -- so product is available if you want it, but Joel won't force it if you seem uninterested.

The salon is lovely with friendly staff. It never takes more than a few seconds for someone to greet you, take your coat and offer you a drink. Many places could take customer service cues from Salon U.

Great Atmosphere, Talented Staff, and the Perfect Hair

The name of the salon speaks for itself ? it is all about you, the client. First of all, the atmosphere of the salon is modern yet comfortable. The atmosphere is enhanced by an impeccable staff who provides great customer service. The staff is happy to be working there and it comes out in their product, your hair. In addition, the salon has some perks that makes a normal trip to the salon much more enjoyable; a variety of drinks, such as latte, wine, or champagne, and ipods to view television shows. Time flies when you are in this salon as you sip your latte and catch up on a TV show you may have missed. Finally, the staff is very talented. Every trip to this salon resulted in hair that I loved. It is worth every cent.

Fantastic

I really love this place. I brought a picture in of what I wanted and the stylist got it down perfectly. I don't know how she did it but she matched the color, cut and highlights almost perfectly. I was very impressed. However, It did take a long time to accomplish this look. I was there for approximately 4 1/2 hours. And its kinda pricy. I fortunately had a %25 off coupon which brought my bill to $145. So be prepared to spend a lot of time and money for a perfect look.
