My date and I were just there for the first time on Monday and both of us loved it. The Whetstone Pino was recommended by our server and was one of the most interesting I think I've had. My date ordered the salmon, which was prepared perfectly. He liked it so much, I didn't even get a bite. I ordered venison, which I never otherwise do since I don't particularly like venison, but wanted to give it a shot after the recommendation by our server....why not, right?! I'm so glad I did! Contrary to every other venison dish I've ever had, this was tender, perfectly seasoned and not the least bit gamey. The side dishes were just as tasty....the most delicious and vibrant brussel sprouts and the best wild rice I've ever had. That's right: the best rice I've ever had! And, who usually cares about the rice?! Dessert was pretty good, too, although I was stuffed at that point. It was a great, cozy place with fantastic food. We will be back!

Pros: The food was some of the best I've had, as was the overall experience. Ambience was cozy and perfect for intimate coversation.

Cons: Hmmm....best I can come up with...and it's a S-t-r-e-t-c-h is that our server was a little on the chatty side but that's probably due to a slow night and that we appeared to be fellow foodies.

I took my Boyfriend to diner for his birhtday on Friday the 25th at Aigre Doux. What a great suprise! I heard bad and great reviews of this restaurant so I had yo go myself and make my own opinion. We Started with a Heirloom tomato salad wich was so Amazing that i realised I've never had " Tomatoes" before.Followed by a Butter Tender Lamb with truffle grits and fennel salad for my BF, and almond quinoa and bok choi. Both of these dishes were very delicate, tasty and have suprising flavors. As a French Guy, I am used to much more tradionnal food, I have to say I had a blast. To talk about the staff, the hostess were extremely nice and very attentive, our server were very knowledgable about the menu and the wine list. Her recommandations helped us a lot.I wish i could remember her name. Overall I give too thumbs up to Aigre Doux. I was getting bored with restaurants here but now i have a new place to bring, guests, family and business meetings.

Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere

Cons: None

I had lunch at Aigre Doux with a candidate I am planning to extend an offer to and wanted to woo her a little before the offer. Unfortunately, I was unable to get my woo on here. Let's just say I was not impressed. To start with we went at 12:30 and were one of maybe 10 tables in the restaurant. Of those tables, one looked like the family of one of the staff that appeared to be both working and dining. As for the food...I ordered the pulled pork and my guest had the nine vegetable salad. I cannot comment on her meal, but I can tell you she didn't have much to say about it either. The portions of food were generous, but the flavor…not so much. I would rate my meal as fair to poor. There wasn't one thing on my plate that I would say was even good. The service was nothing to write home about either. The staff was polite at best. Given the recent accolades and reputation of the chefs I was really excited to go to this restaurant, and now having been there I definitely won't be returning.

Pros: very vanilla nothing stood out

Just drawn to the address as I know it was formerly known as George's and hosted the most talented such as Ms. Phyllis Hyman. Anyway, this pizza with fresh basil and burgers with balsamic vinegar at 50 bucks a pop are funny. You people are a hoot! Being from Dearborn, MI and recognizing the origin of the chefs names, nobody has any excuse to complain about waiting. These people take care of their own first. You people are a hoot!

Pros: See and be seen (by your neighborhood postman)

Cons: You might feel special because you ate food in River North

a most memorable and tasty meal included lamb and chicken and virtually every dessert was boxed up and taken home. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend. we showed up with no reservations on a busy night. we were seated within 20 minutes. every plate in the place was going back clean. great service too

Pros: none

Cons: none

The restaurant was highly recommended by other restaurateurs in Chicago and our group of 3 was excited to check it out and experience the offerings. Let's just say that each dish and course disappointed us in everyway. Flavors were bland and dishes were under-seasoned. The beer, wine and spirit program was the saving grace of this restaurant - well selected, impressive, reasonable and fun. Our server did an outstanding job trying to save the meal and his performance was impressive. However, we were so disappointed that we didn't even stay for dessert and attempted to give a busser our credit card so we could leave more quickly. At the beginning of the meal, we asked for a spicy dish to accompany our beers - they sent out regular food with a dish of chili flakes - what a joke! At the end of the meal, when the chili flakes were still on the table, a manager walked by and asked, 'What is that for?' By this point we were all thoroughly offended and done with Aigre Doux. We went elsewhere a spent another $150.00 on wine, cheese & dessert - a much better decision.

Pros: Beverage Program, Service

Cons: Food, Flavors, Atmosphere, Management

Visited this restaurant to try their honeycomb icecream. Walked into a place that had no sign out front but upon entering, it was romantically lit with white tablecloths. Despite the expensive-ish feel and ambiance, the hostesses were welcoming and pleasant. The bar area is quite small and full of people who are waiting to be seated so don't plan on actually eating at the bar. Had the kobe beef burger. The fries on the side were awesome. Had the icecream trio for dessert. A small scoop of strawberry cheesecake, honeycomb, and chocolate cherry. The honeycomb flavor was interesting. It had sticky pieces of honeycomb sprinkled all over but the icecream tasted like it had a hint of lavender. Weird, but good nonetheless. The service was great, our hostess was kind, and the server was nice too. I'm in the Goldcoast and see similar restaurants but they have a weird pretentious, be-seen vibe when you see white tablecloths. Not this place but it was still romantic and classy.

Pros: Classy, romantic, great service all around

Cons: On the expensive side and kind of hidden
