Amongst the best Steakhouses in Chicago

by 10ECStud

If you're looking for a great prime steak in a very elegant atmosphere inside the Loop, look no further. Rosebud serves prime steaks and much more... I was impressed witht their menu which had many more options than most pure steakhouses that I am used to in the area. My wife and I shared the Lobster Cocktail, split a Caesar Salad and each had a Steak (Bone-in Filet and NY Strip) and some Asparagus. It was a filling experience but I would highly recommend everything we tried. We went on a Sunday night and it was nice and slow so we received expert service and lots of attention from the entire staff. Overall a wondeful experience.

Above and beyond all expectations!

by onlythebestforus

As we entered the doors of ROSEBUD PRIME, the staff immediatlety acknowledged our presence and we were made to feel as though we were the most important people there. Our coats were taken and we were escorted to our table. As the chairs were pulled out for us we once again experienced the feeling that the well trained, professional and experienced staff were there to make our visit one to remember!

We were very impressed by the staff, but what about the food and atmosphere? We can't begin to communicate all of the textures and flavors that we had the pleasure of enjoying that evening.

I LOVED the Mussels Shallot and Chardonnay as my appetizer, the mussels were cooked to perfection and the presentation was outstanding. We both decided on a Caesar Salad for our next course, and were pleasantly surprised that it was tossed tableside for us. Again, the salad was crisp and the housemade dressing was seasoned just right. And then...the Petite Filet and New York Strip! I can safley say that these steaks were the best either of us have had. They melted in the mouth but held the flavor and meaty enjoyment that all steaks should. There is not enough room to talk about the wine selection, but needless to say everything went beyond our expectations. We have been to many fine restuarants, both here and abroad, and I have never taken the time to review them. This made such an impression from begining to end, that I want as many people as possible to enjoy the same experience as we did. I will have to savor the memory of this visit until we go back at Christmas...if we can last that long! All around top notch place!

Melt in your mouth

by Trishamac28

I picked this restaurant because it was close to the Lasalle Bank Theater. It was like a blind date that worked our wonderfully. The service was excellent. The food was so so good. I ordered the petite fillet and it was cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth tender. The sides were generously portioned to share. Food was served hot. For desert we ordered the creme brulle and the fruit. Again, enough for all of us to share. I liked that we were not rushed and could enjoy the meal. And the wait staff were available when needed but did not hoover by our table. Well worth the trip from the suburbs. Our tab was about $85 per person. Well worth it for a special ocassion .

Amazing food, nice dining area, service needs help

by ahkitekt

My wife and I have eaten steaks all over Chicago, and we were very excited to try Rosebud Prime. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. We were a bit surprised when a server approached us and asked if we would like a drink, but there was no wine list or menus in sight. So we kindly requested a wine list. After we ordered drinks and they arrived we then were brought menus. We shared the lobster cocktail, and it was not only excellent but well presented. My corn chowder was perfect, just the right size and not too heavy or rich. My wife ordered a house salad with a side of creamy garlic, but that never came. We noticed the server next to us was using a small notebook, and I am fairly certain that meant all of his orders were filled. When we finally asked about the salad the server apologized and stated he would make it up to us with dessert. My Chicago bone-in ribeye was one of the best steaks I have eaten, and I highly recommend this to any steak lover. MY wife's NY strip was also amazing. The yukon mashed side is very tasty, and finished with a little crispy crust on top. The green beans amandine were the one item we disliked, and we found it inedible. Tasted of pearl onions and excessive oil. I would have expected it finished with a hint of butter and done with a bit of garlic in lieu of onions. I would say do not order this. Dessert was the trio of creme brulees, which we were shocked to find on our check after the forgotten salad. We said nothing as this was our first time, but had I been there before I surely would have asked the item be removed from the check. Rule #1, never lie to a customer. I was also surprised that I had to ask for another cocktail, and my wife's wine glass sat empty for upwards of 5 minutes. My experience at other high-end steak restaurants has always been impressive drink service. After all, that is how you turn a 150 dollar tab into a 250 dollar tab. Overall our experience was great and we will return soon

  • Pros: food, steaks, decor, drinks
  • Cons: our server, green beans

Chicagoland's Italian institution adds another rose to its empire with this Loop steakhouse prime for fine dining.

by Valerie Moloney

The Scene
Drama drips from every inch of this well-appointed space, from the cascading burgundy curtains to the plush booths to the brass-fitted staircase sweeping to a private, second-floor dining room. Plumes of cigar smoke float woodsy notes from the front bar, where flatscreens broadcast the latest Cubs or Bears games. Maitre d's and servers fuss over every table--mostly moneyed suits and dolled-up women--defining what it means to offer VIP treatment.

The Food
This classy Italian restaurant won't be outdone by its siblings, even with a tighter steak-focused menu. Buttery king crab legs make frequent trips out of the kitchen, and equally delicious Oysters Rockefeller, though not as eye-pleasing, melt in your mouth with creamy spinach, garlic, Parmesan and crispy breadcrumbs. For beef, the bone-in Kansas City Strip is juicier and more tender than the mushroom-topped bone-in filet, a house signature. Sides, including pan-fried potatoes with jalapenos and cheesy cauliflower, are meant for sharing.

Hits: The team approach to service shines through. Expect touches like a maitre d' pulling out your table so you can slip easily into your booth or a manager filling your wine glass.

Misses:
We'd take Sinatra or even Michael Buble any day over the clubby beats and sports broadcasts.
