We did not feel welcome here

by sparkygeorge

I went with a group of 6 on a Friday evening. The place was not crowded. Our party sat at a long table on the lower level. The menu looked great (more selections than the menu posted on the web). Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow. Initially, we waited at least 20 minutes for our server to come and take our drink order. There may have been only 1 server there that night, which would explain our wait. It took an equally lengthy time to receive those drinks, so some in my party ordered a second drink when the first drinks came. We were served a fries with gravy and cheese dish for the table to share (which were soggy), and were not given silverware or napkins, until we were able to flag down our server 10 minutes later. A member of my party requested a glass to pour his bottled sparkling water into, but never received it and gave up trying to flag the server down. I ordered the calamari, which cost $11, and was disappointed when I received a plate with 2 pieces of calamari on it. I am used to small plate restaurants, but this was insulting. And the calamari dish was actually listed under the seafood section of the menu, not the small plate section. One member of our party ordered a Reuben sandwich which turned out to be juicy, great, and size-appropriate. Another member ordered the Croque Madame which was decent but small. At the end of the meal, the server did not offer us the option of dessert or another drink. To sum this review up, I, nor the other members in my party, felt welcome there. I would like to send a message to the Paramount: Please improve your service, portions need to be a bit more generous, and you absolutely need to work on making your customers feel welcome at your restaurant.

Hidden gem!

I'm SO happy we recently discovered Paramount Room...luckily we live just a few blocks away, which makes it an easy dinner destination. Every time we've gone we've gotten a table right away, and the food is consistently AWESOME: the fried green beans, the mussels, Amish chicken, fish & chips...the beer selection is great, too. After living in Belgium for a few months, I was excited to see a lot of good Belgian beers on Paramount's menu. We've also had excellent service from the waitstaff, so there's nothing but good things to say about the place!

International beer flows from this stylish, tucked-away bar and restaurant.

by Fred Schlatter

In Short
A blue neon sign marks the entrance, hidden among overpasses and complicated intersections. Inside, a bar takes up most of the front room, crowned by dozens of tap pulls. Decor is limited to raw wood, exposed brick and glowing silk lamps. Downstairs is twice the size, featuring pucker-upholstered booths and a pool table. Despite the loud rock, the global menu and smart beer choices make for a fairly refined dinner.
