Creative Presentation and Reasonable Price

by javend

We found this Thai Restaurant on our way to the expressway on Western. My Fiance and I were hungry so why not stop by and check it out since we both love Thai food. Parking wasn't helpful but once we walked in we forgot about the parking situation. This place is definetely different from your typical Thai restaurants. It is modern, clean, and the service is very friendly.

I ordered the Pad Thai with Tofu and my fiance order the Panagn Curry with Chicken which the server highly recommended. When I received my order the presentation of the Pad Thai was creative almost didn't wanted to eat it but good thing I did because it was excellent. I have recommended this modern place to friends and family. They love it and we love it too. It has become our favorite Thai restaurant to visit whenever we're in the northside of Chicago.

Family-owned Thai restaurant dishes up meals wrapped in heavily piquant and fragrant spices.

by Marla Seidell

In Short
Peaceful powder blue walls, Ikea dinnerware, stacks of travel magazines and an attentive staff exude a stylish, yet welcoming and tranquil vibe at this Western Avenue storefront. Thai dishes, which have extra notch of spice and flavor, are equally ambrosial. Sakoo dumplings (made with turnip, chicken, peanut and garlic) and drunken noodles, tossed with vodka and spicy basil chili, are standouts. Dessert is no less interesting--the sweet purse (mung bean paste and sweet rice flour "purses" dusted in coconut) or crispy honey fried banana top off an exotic meal.

A Modern, Simple Take on Thai

by Flack

Kan Pou is a great addition to the existing, and outstanding, Thai restaurants a little farther north on Western Avenue, such as Spoon and Opart. What sets it apart, though, is its modern atmosphere and straightforward menu. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, as you might expect, but don't always find with a newly opened eating establishment. You can tell immediately that its family-owned and operated. The food quality is excellent, even though the menu is a lot simpler than you may typically find at other Thai places. They offer something like a dozen entrees, five curries, and so on. For me, it was kind of refreshing to make an easy decision at a Thai restaurant. I had the Basil dish with steak, and it was excellent. Overall, I strongly recommend Kan Pou for those looking to try a different kind of Thai restaurant in the hood.
