Not What It First Was
by BeTheChangeYouWishToSee
I am a student in the area and when I first tried Epic Burger, I loved it. I thought it was the greatest thing ever. The owner usually was the one ringing us up, he's a very sweet man! The cook staff worked diligently and timely. The burgers had a little bit of grease, but normal amount for a cheeseburger. And for the taste, I thought the pricing was really reasonable. I will say, I do not like big burgers, I like the really thin ones and that's what Epic Burger has.
After XMAS, everything changed. It just didn't taste the same. The burgers are now full of grease. The fries are soggy or burnt. The staff plays around constantly. Of course, it's okay to have a little bit of fun, but ever since the college students started working the front counter, it's seems to be all fun and no work. Now they are too busy goofing off to get work done. The burgers are now poorly put together, constantly sliding off the bun, getting the excess grease all over. The grease had nearly liquefied the lettuce the last time I ate there.
I am done eating at Epic Burger unless they make some changes with service and amount of grease. I really wouldn't recommend it UNLESS you like a ton of grease, soggy bun, crappy fries, and crappy service.
Not what it used to be. :(
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: very greasy, expensive, inconsiderate staff
Tastes like Wendy's Dollar Menu
by HollandBrick
Ridiculously overpriced and tasted like an over-sized nitrite free Wendy's Jr Bacon Cheeseburger for 10 times the cost (meals are 10-12 dollars not including cheese, bacon, or anything else) The beef was paper thin - the fried egg was actually thicker than the meat, soggy bun, barely any cheese... people keep writing how juicy this burger is... its because all you can taste is the grease because there's no substance. Their magical epic sauce tastes like every other mayo ketchup combo sauce out there. I give it two stars because its not terrible, but certainly you can do better even at some fast food joints

- Pros: people who want to be trendy will feel trendy eating here
- Cons: waayyy overpriced
Best Burger in town!!!
by sophiathomas
I ate at Epic Burger last week and thought I should let everyone know how amazing it is! In addition to great service the food was extremely tasty. The menu has lots of options at really reasonable prices. I went with the epic burger and a side of fries. The meat was so fresh and juicy; I could tell it hadn?t been sitting in the back for hours. Even the veggies on my burger were crisp. I ordered my burger with grilled onion and extra epic sauce and I highly recommend it! The fries were also delicious and most importantly not soggy. The menu features a ton of shakes and smoothies but I decided to go with a soda. I regretted that decision though because the people sitting at the table next to me ordered a vanilla malt, and apparently it was awesome because I could hear them fighting over it. I will for sure be going back to Epic Burger and next time I plan on ordering a chocolate shake too!
More than just great burgers***!

My boyfriend loves burgers and while I don?t, you have to give in every now and then right? So I went with him to this new place in the Loop the other day called ?Epic Burger.? I ordered a portabella mushroom sandwich, side of fries and a milk n honey smoothie. I am a big smoothie person and can honestly say that it was the best smoothie I have ever had. I plan on returning to Epic based on their smoothie selection alone! In addition to my great smoothie, the food wasn?t bad either. The fries were very flavorful and not overly greasy. I dipped them in this yummy sauce they have called ?Epic Sauce.? My portabella sandwich was also awesome and it was a nice to have options other than just burgers at a burger place. I will definitely come here again, maybe even without my boyfriend!
Healthy and Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by CityGal65
I have been looking for a place to get a ?health friendly? burger for a while, so I was psyched to hear that Epic Burger was moving into town. I went in the other day and ordered a turkey burger and a strawberry smoothie. (Even though I got a smoothie I think it?s great that they offer fat free frozen yogurt shakes.) Loved the fact that I could get my burger on a whole wheat bun, I was able to enjoy it more and not feel guilty! My strawberry smoothie was blended to a perfect creamy consistency (not too icy not too creamy) and had lots of flavor. In addition to the great food, the place itself has an awesome vibe. Can?t wait to go back!
Extremely Tasty Burger!

Stopped in at Epic Burger between classes the other day with little time and little cash. I am a picky eater and was not sure if I would be into the different cheeses and healthy alternatives, but I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the All Natural Epic Burger with a side of fries and a chocolate shake. Everything was delicious! The best part of my lunch was by far the burger; I actually really liked the aged cheddar. I?m more of a ranch girl but the Epic sauce was so good that I asked for an extra side of it. My shake was also awesome, thick and creamy and very chocolaty. The price was reasonable and well worth it. I will definitely be making this a regular lunch spot!
Very Good Burger in Downtown Chicago AA++
by bokworm
Very good burger with a wonderful taste. The bread-whole wheat- was fresh, flavorful and soft. The burger meat was very, very good, not at all like the average chains or the "other gourmet burger" restaurants in downtown. Topped of with a tasty sauce that compliments the pickle and tomato/lettuce gives you a great burger to eat. Now this is a fairly good sized hunk of meat inside those buns. The fries were a tad greasy, but some people enjoy them that way. Now on to the shake-the chocolate and ice cream blended perfectly and was super!! Good thing they give you a small straw, otherwise you'd have the shake gone it a minute. Yes it's that good. The pie tins used for your plate is a smart idea. All the napkins, containers are re-cycled and Epic Burger lives the 'green' philosophy. Althou, I don't know if their staff uses the frier grease in their cars, but I think they would. Ambiance? Nice, open and clean great to talk or people watch and can handle a group if needed. The wait for the food was rather quick. Of course I wished these tasty large burgers were less expensive BUT it still would be considered a bargain because of the quality of ingredients you get. Yes...I'd come back!!
- Pros: Good portions of very tasty food.
- Cons: Minutely expensive for a cheap guy like me, but not really.
best burger in town!!!!!!!
by cookiefan
As far as I'm concerned this is the only place to go if you want to feel good about eating a burger. Not only is the quality of meat, bread and toppings wonderful the taste is out of this world. Thank you Epic Burger for being Born!!!!!
- Pros: everything
- Cons: your waist line will grow after to many
Conscious fast food--burgers, in particular--are a hit at this hip South Loop establishment.
by Jennifer Olvera
In Short
Mod, geometrical accents and blond wood details complement the dining experience at this alternative to popular burger chains, located on the ground floor of the University Center. The bent--born of owner David Friedman's experiences consulting for fast-food establishments--is the meat is antibiotic and hormone-free. The (LCD screen) menu is well-edited, showcasing just two burgers (beef or turkey), three sammies (scrambled or fried egg, chicken or portabello) and simply seasoned, sea-salted fries. Toppings go beyond the basics to include aged cheddar and horseradish havarti, plus a choice of a whole-wheat or toasted egg bun. For beverages, shakes, malts and fruit smoothies are on offer.
