Jolane's Cafe is Glenview's best kept secret.

Went in with my family after playing at the park next door, to grab some coffee. I didn't realize how much they offered. We stayed for dinner and I can say this was a fantastic experience. The food was fresh and very delicious. I had the whitefish and it was beyond my expectations. My children loved the mac n cheese. We had so much food, we had leftovers for the next day. They even gave the kids a free ice cream cone.

Great food, happy family. Will definately return!

  • Pros: Great service. Big wine selection. Quality food.
  • Cons: Didn't know about this place before.

Don't Bother

"This glorified Denny's clone calls itself a wine bar! Too brightly lit, too cheaply decorated! Oh, and...no apperitifs, no digestifs, no cheese plate, oh, and... NO BAR! ... hmmm anyone else dubious?

If not, let's talk about the carpaccio! $12 for five pieces of seared tuna bites with burnt pesto on top... the chef then has the audacity to tell me that "carpaccio " means how it is cooked, not how it is cut! WHAT?! You don't cook carpaccio!!!!

So, I did some research...according to all sources, including my Italian family, cooking instructor in Paris @ the Cordon Bleu and La Repertoire de La Cuisine... 'Carpaccio is a dish of raw beef, veal or tuna thinly sliced or pounded thin so as to be able to see the dish under neath and served as an appetizer.'

Too salty, ill-prepared and cupcakes that weigh more than doorstops...Skip it... go to Flight. Better food, better informed, better wine."

  • Pros: Service with a smile...but not from the hostess
  • Cons: Everything else

Glenview's very own west bank retreat, conveniently located next to (and owned by) Abt Electronics superstore.

In Short
Weary home theater shoppers and those with kitchen envy swarm this pleasant strip mall cafe. The look is century-old wood-paneled library--except it's all spanking new and still shiny. Attentive servers bring hot tea, coffee drinks, fresh juices and wine on blindingly bright silver trays before explaining the tempting array of classic sandwiches, hot entrees and refreshing salads. Most finish with dessert--not a bad decision considering the glass case filled with tarts, gallettes, pastries, cakes and pies-perfect with rich Julius Meinl coffee and exotic teas.
