Editorial Review for Blue Water Grill – by Robyn Galbos

The Scene
Cool and contemporary, the bi-level space evokes a deep-sea feel with dark-wood furnishings and iridescent-curtained windows. Coral colors pop in pillows on silvery banquettes; a wall of starfish behind the second-level bar and ceiling panels painted to suggest waving seaweed further the aquatic feel. Attentive servers cater to the bustling crowd of affluent locals and visitors.

The Food
Carefully presented seafood with several raw-bar options are the menu's hallmarks. Six varieties of fresh oysters, and foie gras served on a thick bed of berry bread pudding are standout starters. For entrees, Maine sea scallops--golden on the surface and tender inside--are lined up on a semolina cake and drizzled with foie gras sauce; and flaky seared Chilean sea bass is served with broccoli rabe and olive tapenade. Non-seafood options include N.Y. strip and tender lamb loin, sliced and served with a rich, buttery gratin of sweet potatoes, brie and figs.

After being turned away from Joe's and Shaw's, we wandered into BWG, so glad we did. More locals dine here, very sophisticated restaurant, great decor, delicious food, awesome wine menu (had 2 bottles). One of the best meals I've had in Chicago. Being lactose-intolerant, I was able to enjoy sorbet for dessert-yeah! The Chilean sea bass was great, and the sushi was outstanding! The service was slow, and our bottle of wine was across the room, so we told her to put the bottle on the table. Other than the slow service, our food took about an hour to come out, it was still great. Gave us time to talk, and we were not rushed. Will go back!

Pros: Great food, will seat you promptly, nice decor

Cons: In a hurry? service is slow
